Tough round of AFL betting tips last weekend as PuntingInDanger and fans only hit on 2 out of 9 betting tips. Last time that happened, however, we backed it up with a 7/9 performance the following week so we’ll be looking for another big bounce back weekend in Round 8 of the AFL coming up!
Round 8 kicks off this Friday night with Hawthorn hosting Sydney at the MCG in what should be a great clash! The Hawks will be coming into Round 8 on the back of a great win against Essendon, which saw James Sicily return to the line-up after suspension with a best on ground performance.
Star midfielder Tom Mitchell was also fantastic in the win, racking up 29 disposals and a goal to help elevate the Hawks into the top four with a 5-2 record. The Hawks have been super impressive to start the 2018 season and could make a real statement with a win at home over the Swans on Friday night.
The Swans went into their home game against North Melbourne on Saturday night as hot favourites but couldn’t get the job done as the Roos came out two-point victors in a thrilling game. After a slow start to the season, Josh P. Kennedy has exploded over the last two games for the Swans, racking up 64 possessions, 35 of them contested.
The Swans will be desperate to get key players Lance Franklin and Dan Hannebery back from injury this week, unfortunately the likes of Sam Reid and Lewis Melican will remain on the sidelines. The Hawks have a few key players out with injury as well as Cyril Rioli and Paul Puopolo look set to miss the Sydney game.
Tough match to call here, the Swans will be desperate to bounce back after a tough loss at home and if Buddy returns to the line-up I can see them moving into slight favouritism here. At the moment it’s exactly even odds for both sides but given the form and the home field advantage I’d have to give the slight edge to the Hawks.
The return of Sicily really strengthens the Hawthorn defence and even with the potential return of Franklin I still like the Hawks to win at the MCG, where they have lost just one of five games so far this year.
TIP: Hawthorn to win - $1.91 at Sportsbet
