Only six games on in the AFL but that doesn’t stop some of the major daily fantasy sites around Australia putting up some great prize pools for all the footy action in Round 14! The folks at PlayON have their standard slates of upwards of $1,000 on Saturday and some great contests for the Thursday and Friday night games.
Draftstars is what we’ll be previewing today though, as Saturday’s three game slate offers a monster $40,000 guaranteed prize-pool! We are back with our Saturday daily fantasy team of the week below!
Defenders: Kayne Turner, Zac Langdon
Strong vein of GWS, Hawthorn and North Melbourne players throughout the team this weekend as I think all three teams will have big wing over their opponents. Kayne Turner is a value option and should have plenty of opportunity in the North Melbourne forward line. Scored 102 just a few weeks ago and has the ability to move into the midfield at times to have higher possession games.
Zac Langdon was great in the Giants win over Adelaide a few weeks ago, kicking three goals and racking up 90 points. Should be great conditions for him in Brisbane on Saturday and while he is another value pick, I expect a 75+ from Langdon here.
Midfield: Josh Kelly, Shaun Higgins, Tim Taranto, Jaeger O’Meara
The midfield is where we will be spending the majority of our cash this week as we take some out and out guns in Josh Kelly and Shaun Higgins to spearhead the team. Kelly returned form injury a few weeks ago and I wanted to give him a few weeks to find the groove. He only needed two. After scoring 96 and 93 in his first two games back from injury, Kelly went off last weekend, scoring 166 points while racking up 40 touches, 7 tackles and 2 goals in the win over Gold Coast.
Higgins has arguably been one of the best five players in the league this season and dominated against the Cats two weeks ago, scoring 123 points on 30 touches and 2 goals. He has only drifted below 80 points on one occasion this year and has a great matchup this weekend against the Dogs, who allow the 5th most fantasy points in the league.
Taranto and O’Meara are both on the cheaper side of the premium spectrum but are both capable of massive scores. O’Meara racked up 114 points on 3 touches against the Crows last weekend and has the best matchup of the week as he lines up against the Suns who allow the most points of any team in the league. Taranto should get a little less attention with Kelly back in the side and has been great the last few weeks, racking up scores of 87 and 97 in his last two.
Defenders: Sam Wright, Blake Hardwick
Another couple of value options in defence this weekend as we take Sam Wright and Blake Hardwick. As we mentioned above, we expect both the Hawks and Roos to get comfortable wins on Saturday, meaning there will be plenty of uncontested possessions floating around the half back line of both teams. If we can get 70+ from each of them it would be a great result after the cash we spent in the midfield.
Ruck: Ben Brown
Still a bit strange to me that you can get big Benny Brown in the ruck at Draftstars, but we aren’t complaining as he provides a cheaper option to the first-string ruckman this weekend and provides great value. Is back at Etihad this weekend where he has played his best so far this year. Needs perfect conditions to perform and will get them this weekend under the roof and also has a great matchup. Will line-up on an undersized defender and should have a field day against the Dogs.
