We had a tough round before the week off with one of our three bets for the weekend getting up. It was at decent odds ($2.07) however, so all was not lost in what has otherwise been a really successful season for us and our followers. We now shift our focus to the upcoming set of fixtures, which comprise Match Day 23of the 2018-19 Hyundai A-League season. As always, good luck to everyone following!
A-League Match Day 23 Betting Tips
Brisbane Roar vs Sydney FC (Friday 7:50pm AEDT)
First up in Match Day 23 we’re looking at the Friday night fixture that sees Brisbane Roar host Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium. This will be the third and final meeting between these teams this season in a series that has seen the home team win 2-1 on both occasions.
Brisbane Roar come into this off a 2-1 away loss to Melbourne Victory last time out. They went down two early goals in that game and were never able to truly recover and get something out of it. They remain in second last position on the ladder and are simply playing for pride at this point in the season.
Sydney FC suffered a rare home loss in their most recent game against Melbourne City. Like many, we expected them to put in a much stronger effort in front of their home fans, but instead they walked away empty handed and in serious trouble of losing second spot on the ladder. As it stands, they’re just one point ahead of their arch rivals Melbourne Victory.
We expect the week off to do Sydney FC wonders as they regroup and gear up for the final portion of the season. They’re the far better team in this match-up and should pile on the goals against a poor Roar defence. The over 2.5 goals market has hit in each of the last five meetings between these teams, which we expect to be the case once again here.
Sydney FC + Over 2.5 Goals

Wellington Phoenix vs Newcastle Jets (Saturday 5:35pm AEDT)
Second up for the round we’re looking at the fixture between Wellington Phoenix and the Newcastle Jets. This is scheduled to kick off just after 5:30 (AEDT) on Saturday afternoon at Westpac Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand. The Phoenix won the corresponding fixture by two goals to one in October 2018 but drew with the Jets in Newcastle the last time they met in February of this year.
Wellington Phoenix have had two great wins in a row to continue their assault on the ladder. Last time out it was the Wanderers who they got the better of, defeating them 3-1 at home. They’ll be hoping that the international break doesn’t disrupt their rhythm in the front half, as they’ve scored an amazing 11 goals from their last two games. They’re currently in fourth spot on the ladder and have just about locked in a spot in the finals.
The Jets, on other hand, suffered a really embarrassing home loss in their fixture before the break. They lost in front of their home fans to a team that got smacked by seven goals the week prior. What’s more disappointing is the fact they were claiming it as a must win in order to stay in touch with the top six. As it stands, they’re five points outside the finals with five games remaining.
We’re quietly confident that the Phoenix will get up at home against the Jets on Saturday at a great price. Over $2 seems like terrific value when you consider the form of both teams heading into this fixture, especially with Wellington being the home side. Take them at anything around $2 as our best bet for the week.
Perth Glory vs Melbourne Victory (Saturday 10pm AEDT)
The third and final game we’ve taken a keen interest in this week is the blockbuster fixture that sees Perth Glory host Melbourne United at NIB Stadium on Saturday night. These title contenders have already met twice this season, with Glory coming out on top in both.
Perth Glory entered the week off with another terrific win under their belt. They defeated Adelaide United on the road by two goals to nil to continue their outrageously good season to date. Due to a few slip ups from Victory and Sydney, Glory are now nine points clear at the top of the table and can just about sure up top spot with a win this weekend.
Melbourne Victory were good without being great in their most recent game against Brisbane Roar. They finished with all three points but would’ve hoped to have made lighter work of one of the worst teams in the league. Victory are currently one point behind Sydney FC in second spot and loom as a title threat once again this season.
As mentioned above, Perth Glory have beaten Victory on both occasions this season and can make it three from three on Saturday night. They’ve incredible lost just one game all campaign and seem a class above the rest of the competition. Near $2 at home for Perth is far too good to pass up here.
