Round 20 of the 2018-19 A-League season proved to be a tricky one to predict, with the home team failing to win in all five matches. As bizarre as it was, we now must move on to the upcoming fixtures this weekend and look to bounce back with some value plays. Good luck to everyone following our tips!
A-League Day 21 Betting Tips
Sydney FC vs Adelaide United (Friday 7:50pm AEDT)
The first game of the round is a good one between Sydney FC and Adelaide United Leichhardt Oval on Friday night at 7:50pm (ET). These teams have already faced each other twice this season, with each team having hosted one of them. Sydney FC leads the series with one win and a draw.
Sydney FC bounced back from a couple of lean weeks to defeat Wellington Phoenix on the road last weekend. It was an important win in more ways than one, as it propels them above arch-rivals Melbourne Victory into second spot in the standings.
Adelaide United played out a tough nil all draw in their Match Day 20 fixture last weekend. They looked the dominant side for much of the game, with star player Craig Goodwin threatening consistently, however they just couldn’t find the back of the net and had to settle for one point on the road. As it stands, Adelaide are in fourth spot on the ladder and look destined for another finals campaign.
It should be a terrific Friday night game to kickstart an intriguing Match Day 21. The Bookies have Sydney as favourites, but have still left a lot of meat on the bone. We’re more than happy to take them at home at even odds here.
Melbourne Victory vs Newcastle Jets (Saturday 7:50pm AEDT)
Second up for the weekend we’ve got Melbourne Victory hosting the Newcastle Jets at Simonds Stadium in Geelong on Saturday night at 7:50pm (ET). Melbourne Victory have won both meetings by one goal this season, with one game being at home and the other on the road.
Melbourne Victory did extremely well to take home a point in the derby last weekend. They had just one shot for the entire 90 minutes and were down to 10 men for the majority of the game, but managed to finish the game 1-1 against their rivals. Victory have slid to third on the ladder, but still have plenty of time to play catch-up.
As mentioned above, the Jets drew with Adelaide United in their meeting last weekend. It wasn’t the result they desired, but it keep their point tally ticking over and keeps them in with a chance of playing finals. As it stands, the Jets are five points behind Phoenix in sixth.
Similarly to the Friday night game, we see the home favourite as great value here. Victory are the far better team in this fixture and will be desperate to get back on the winners list. We see them winning this one comfortably.
Melbourne City vs Perth Glory (Sunday 5pm AEDT)
The final game of the weekend is another beauty, with Melbourne City set to host Perth Glory at AAMI Park on Sunday at 5pm (ET). Perth Glory won the first meeting between these teams this season (1-0), before drawing with City on the road in the their second match-up.
Melbourne City weren’t able to capitalize on their opponents having 10-men for a large portion of the game in the derby last weekend. They had to settle for just one point, which takes their winless streak to five games. They’re currently fifth on the standings and will need to start winning games sooner rather than later to secure a finals berth.
On the other hand, Perth Glory took their unbeaten streak to 11-games with a draw last time out against the Wanderers. It wasn’t the result they desired, but to have just one loss at this point in the season is nothing short of remarkable for the purple army.
We’re not quite sure why Perth Glory aren’t a helluva lot shorter in the market here. They’re by far the better team and are in much better form than their opponents. We expect them to get the job done at very nice odds.
