A-League Round 8 Betting Tips
Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne Victory (Friday 7:55pm AEDT)
Brisbane Roar conceded two quick goals after half time in their match against the Jets last weekend, which dropped them down to second last on the table with just six points from seven games. They now travel back home to take on the reigning champions, Melbourne Victory. Roar have picked up five of their six points on their home deck and are one of two teams undefeated in front of their home fans.
Melbourne Victory continued their dominant stretch last weekend, recording their fifth win on the spin. It’s been a great turn of form for Kevin Muscat’s men who lost their opening two fixtures. They’re now in second spot on the table and just two points behind the undefeated Perth Glory. Surprisingly, Victory have only played two games on the road this season, but have won them both.
The form of these two teams couldn’t be any different at the moment. Victory’s two signings in Keisuke Honda and Ola Toivonen have ben sensational so far and we suspect they will cause havoc this weekend against a shaky Roar defence. Very happy to take the odds of Victory to make it six on the spin.
Wellington Phoenix vs Central Coast Mariners (Saturday 5:35pm AEDT)
Wellington Phoenix caused arguably the upset of the season last weekend when they dominated Sydney FC from start to finish, eventually running home 3-1 winners on the road. It was the second impressive performance from Phoenix in as many weeks, which has propelled them above Roar and into eighth position on the ladder and only goal difference outside a finals berth.
The Mariners continue to struggle and remain the only winless team in the competition. Dating back to the start of last season, Mariners have won just five games from 34 starts. Last weekend it was the Wanderers who took advantage of their poor play, beating them on Friday night by two goals to nil.
It’s impossible to make a play on anything other than a Phoenix win in this one. At near even odds this is terrific value, especially for a team that just knocked off Sydney FC on the road. We’re happy to back them in to beat the bottom dwellers at home.
Western Sydney Wanders vs Sydney FC (Saturday 7:50pm AEDT)
The Wanderers recorded a much needed win last Friday night when they defeated the Mariners at home by two goals. That win took their points tally to eight, which has them even with the Jets and Phoenix. The Wanderers are blessed with another home game this weekend, where they have one win, one draw, and one loss this season.
Sydney FC are in arguably the worst touch we’ve seen from them in the past three seasons. The 3-1 result against Phoenix last weekend was a shock, but the way in which they played was even more of a head-scratched. The good news for them is they’re still in third position on the table, but the bad news is they’re six points from the top and just three points from losing a finals spot.
Sydney FC have had their way with the Wanderers in the derby in recent times, but we feel things might be a little different this time around. It’s hard to see Sydney bouncing back from such a poor performance to defeat a quality outfit in the Wanderers in such a short turnaround. We’re really confident with a play on the Wanderers Draw No Bet market here.
