Our Round 7 team never really got off the ground as Hawks midfielder Jaeger O’Meara was a late withdrawal from the Hawthorn lineup. We’ll aim to avoid injuries this week as we present our AFL Draftstars Team of the Week for Round 8. This week we’ll be looking at the Sunday $30k tournament.
Don't forget, along with DrafStars, there's also plenty of money to be won at other Daily Fantasy and Tournament Sites like Moneyball, TopBetta and SportChamps! AFL Daily Fantasy Tips - Round 8
Defenders
Jarryd McVeigh
The veteran Swan returned to the line-up last week after an extended absence through injury. While he only scored 55 points, he’s a much better player than his $10,800 price tag suggests and should get more run in the midfield this week.
David Astbury
Only averaging 54.7 points per game on the season so far but it’s his last two performances that have impressed. With scores of 70 and 78 in the last two games, if we can get similar production out of him again at just $8,150 we’ll take that.
Midfielders
Gary Ablett
Gaz is back to being the dominant midfielder in the competition. Averaging a whopping 118.7 on the season and 133.33 in his last 3 matches, Ablett has replied to his critics in a massive way. While he did have 9 clangers and 32 touches at just 61% efficiency last week, that doesn’t matter in DraftStars scoring system. Should go big in China.
Nat Fyfe
The 2015 Brownlow medallist has been a bit down on form over the last three weeks, averaging just 82 points in that span. However, his 95 last week showed signs of improvement and he’ll get to play Richmond in Perth this week who have been one of the easier teams to score on.
Alex Sexton
The Gold Coast mid/forward has had a great last three weeks with scores of 80, 95 and 104. From a $10,600 player we can’t ask for too much more. There’s always a risk with the fact that he’ll be playing in China but should get more of a midfield role this week with Matt Rosa, David Swallow and Callum Ah Chee all coming out of the Suns lineup.
Oliver Florent
The $6,400 pick here was really to allow us to grab Gary Ablett. Should continue to get a game but keep an eye on the final teams on Sunday to be sure. Needs to kick goals to score but if he can snag two he might pick up a handy 60-70 for us.
Forwards
Isaac Heeney
The Sydney young forward is an absolute beast and injury should be the only thing stopping him from scoring another hundred here. His last two games have produced scores of 120 and 102 and should continue to get more run in the midfield as more match fitness comes.
Shane Kersten
The Freo forward impressed last week with a solid score of 88 against the Bombers. Get’s another relatively easy scoring team this week with the Tigers but ultimately a value pick at $8,350. Other players to consider at this price range could be, Dan Butler, Kane Turner or even Kurt Tippet.
Rucks
Todd Goldstein
Really the only ruckman with any value this Sunday. Don’t like the idea of taking either of the Richmond pair in Nankervis or Soldo, they’ll split too much time in the ruck and have to go up against Sandi meaning less hitouts. Paddy Ryder is an option but you can bank 100 with Goldy.
