The trouble with having to put out an AFL daily fantasy team of the week on a Friday is that we can’t avoid late withdrawals from games. Joel Selwoood came out of the Cats line-up last weekend and would have ruined a lot of teams chances, including our own, to take out any cash. Selwood wasn’t the only problem we had, with a host of our other players having really average scores. We’ll soldier on though and hope we can find a winning formula as we present out AFL Round 16 Daily Fantasy Team of the Week below.
The Draftstars Big 990 Target has also jackpotted to over $33,000, so an entry in that at $1 a swing is also worth a look.
Don't forget, along with DraftStars, there's also plenty of money to be won at other Daily Fantasy and Fantasy Betting sites like Moneyball, TopBetta and SportChamps! AFL Daily Fantasy Team of the Week – Round 16
Defenders
Aidan Corr ($7,150) & Ben Long ($6,400)
A pair of bargain basement picks here so we can spend in other places. Corr simply for the fact that the Giants come up against the Hawks this weekend, who have allowed the most fantasy points of any team so far, this season.
Long comes back into the St Kilda side after not having played since the 23rd of April so will be looking to impress. Should be a lot of inside possessions on offer in the game that promises to be stop start and scrappy.
Midfielders
Patrick Dangerfield ($17,800)
Danger has distanced himself from the emerging pack of best midfielder in the league in the past few weeks with some monster performances. A 45-disposal match with 142 fantasy points was one of the top scores last weekend and the star mid comes up against Brisbane this weekend who the Cats should have their way with. Could be on for another massive game.
Dayne Zorko ($15,150)
Could see himself going head to head with Danger but there should be plenty of points to go around. Zorko bounce back from a 45 against GWS two weeks ago to record a massive 124 in the win against Essendon on the weekend. That makes 6 of his last 7 games where he has score 119 or more.
Will Hoskin-Elliot ($10,350)
Was one of the better players in the Pies loss to Hawthorn on the weekend. Racked up 19 disposals and 7 marks to score 91. Has only scored under 70 3 times this year and with his tackling numbers going up a bit over the last few weeks we should see him in the 80s or 90s again here.
Martin Gleeson ($9,300)
At just $9,300, the Essendon youngster could be a steal if he can replicate the 87 he had on the weekend against the Lions. Only has the 2 scores above 70 so far, this season but spent a lot more time up around the midfield on the weekend collecting at least 18 disposals for just the 3rd time this season. If he can lay 5 tackles should be on for another score over 70.
Forwards
Jeremy Cameron
Exploded for a massive 132 against the Lions two weeks ago and has the benefit of playing the Hawks this week. Launceston has also proven to be the highest scoring ground on the season so far so all signs point to a big score from some GWS players here. Was able to take 7 marks even in the scrappy game against the Cats last weekend so shouldn’t have any issue finding the pill here.
Toby Nankervis
It’s probably not recommended by a lot of pro fantasy players but we’ll be taking two ruckman going head to head in the final two positions here. The St Kilda vs Richmond game will likely be a scrappy affair with both teams being two of the best pressure and tackling teams in the comp. Wouldn’t be surprised if both ruckman have over 40 hit outs here plus a few marks from scrappy kicks for metres gained.
Ruck
Billy Longer
As we mentioned, should be plenty of hit outs to go around and the Saints ruckman impressed last weekend against Fremantle with 91 points including a whopping 48 hit outs.
