It’s been an inconsistent few weekends in the A-League with important AFC Champions League resulting in split rounds. There are four games on this weekend and we take a look at the key matchups and give our tips below.
A-League Week 23 Betting Tips
Adelaide United vs Melbourne City (Friday 7.50pm AEDT)
Both Adelaide and Melbourne had last weekend off in the A-League, meaning they’ll come into this game fresh, with Adelaide having the extra advantage of playing at home. Melbourne City went down 2-1 in a fierce Melbourne Derby a few weekends ago, while Adelaide weren’t able to come away from Brisbane with any points, going down 1-0.
Adelaide will be desperate for a win here as they look to hold onto their position in the top six. They are currently just three points clear of Perth Glory but have the benefit of having a game in hand. Melbourne City’s hopes of a top two finish and a first round bye in the finals seems to have disappeared after the loss to Melbourne Victory, as they now sit 11 points behind 2nd placed Newcastle.
Tough game to call here. Melbourne City have won the last three games against Adelaide by an aggregate of 8-0 so we’ll side with the form here and back the Sky Blues regardless of the home field advantage.

Sydney FC vs Brisbane Roar (Saturday 7.45pm AEDT)
Sydney suffered just their second loss of the season two weeks ago when they went down to Newcastle Jets 2-1. They also went down to Japanese team Kashima Antlers last Wednesday in the AFC Champions League. The form shouldn’t worry Sydney FC fans too much, as they are still comfortably 8 point clear on top of the A-League table and get a relatively easy matchup this weekend at home against Brisbane.
The Roar were victorious over Adelaide in their last matchup but won’t have played a game in almost two weeks when they line up on Saturday night. They currently sit four points outside of the top six and will be desperate for a win here to boost their odds of playing finals.
Sydney FC are undefeated in their last five games against Brisbane, winning the last two by an aggregate of 6 goals to 1. In Brisbane, we’d give the Roar a slight chance here simply because of the form Sydney has been in recently, but we can’t look past the Sky Blues at home, where they are still undefeated this season.
TIP: Sydney -1 - $2.50 at Sportsbet
Melbourne Victory vs Central Coast Mariners (Sunday 5pm AEDT)
Melbourne Victory have won their last two games and have surged into the top four and now sit just 1 point behind their cross-town rivals, Melbourne City in third place. The Victory will be desperate to hold onto their fourth place, as it means a home game in the first round of the finals. They seem to have clicked at the right time of year, but inconsistency has been their key deficiency so far this year, only time will tell whether they are a real threat or not.
Central Coast have won just one of their last 10 games and sit in 9th place on the A-League table. They have had a season to forget and are now playing only to avoid finishing on the very bottom of the table.
Melbourne Victory are undefeated in their last 14 games against the Central Coast Mariners, and while the last two of them have been draws, we cant see this going any other way than a Victory win.
