We hit on just one of three A-League tips last weekend as there were some surprise results in over the weekend. We’ll look to bounce back to a wining week here as we preview some of the key games in the Week 22 of the Hyundai A-League kicking off this Friday night with a massive Melbourne Derby.
A-League Week 22 Betting Tips
Melbourne City vs Melbourne Victory (Friday 7.50pm AEDT)
After a really poor stretch of form, Melbourne Victory bounced back last weekend to record a 3-0 win over Adelaide United at AAMI Park. The Victory had already sealed the game when Adelaide player Dzengis Cavusevic was shown a red card in the 55th minute of play. Bersat Berisha and Leroy George continued their impressive seasons to date, both adding goals, while the Melbourne defence finally started to find some continuity, allowing United just one shot on goal for the entire game.
Melbourne City had the difficult task of travelling to Perth last weekend, and it was made even more difficult after defender Bart Schenkeveld received a red card in the 67th minute when Melbourne were 1-0 up. Melbourne went on to lose the game 2-1 after former City player Neil Kilkenny and Adam Taggart both found the back of the net in the final stages of the game.
Extremely tough match to call here. The Victory were great in last weeks win over Adelaide, but they haven’t been able to stretch back to back performances together all year. Melbourne City have been the better side this season, but the added spice of the derby usually throws all form out the window. Melbourne Victory are great odds at $2.80, especially with City having to fill the void of the suspended centre back.

Newcastle Jets vs Sydney FC (Saturday 5.35pm AEDT)
First plays second here as the Newcastle Jets host Sydney FC on Saturday night. Sydney were great last weekend against cross town rivals, the Wanderers, and will be looking to make it four wins in a row when they face the Jets. They have been near unbeatable so far this season, and now hold a commanding 11-point lead atop the table with a 16-4-1 record.
Newcastle have certainly been the most surprising team of the 2017-18 season, and currently hold a 12-5-4 record through 21 games. They are 8 points clear of Melbourne City in third place, so should be looking to wrap up the coveted first round finals bye in the coming weeks.
Amazingly, the Newcastle Jets haven’t beaten Sydney FC since all the way back in 2012, their last 15 games against the Sky Blues. In that time there has only been three draws between the two sides, resulting in a dominant run by Sydney FC. We like them to continue that run here at decent odds.

Brisbane Roar vs Adelaide United (Saturday 7.50pm AEDT)
The Brisbane Roar currently sit four points outside of the top six and will be desperately hoping to turn their season around to make a late push for finals. They get the perfect opportunity to do some damage this weekend as they host Adelaide United, who are 5th on the table, 7 points clear of the Roar.
Adelaide were undefeated in three games before they suffered a tough 3-0 loss to the Victory last weekend. They’ll be looking to bounce back in Week 22 as they strive for a top four place and a home final.
Adelaide and Brisbane have a very even recent history. They have traded wins in their last four games with the away team winning the last two matchups. Adelaide have been the better side this year and there’s great odds being offered for them here.
TIP: Adelaide to win - $2.75 at Sportsbet
