Another profitable week in A-League betting tips last weekend as we hit on 2 of 3 bets to continue our hot string of form. Week 17 of the season gets underway this Thursday night with the Roar taking on the Glory. We take a look at the key games of the weekend’s action and give our tips below.
A-League Week 17 Betting Tips
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne Victory (Friday 7.50pm AEDT)
Melbourne bounced back after a disappointing loss to Wellington in Week 15 to beat the Perth Glory on Saturday. The win pushed them back into the top four with a 6-5-5 record on the season, but they still sit 10 points behind Newcastle in second place. With Sydney having all but wrapped up top spot on the table, the Victory will be hunting that 2nd place finish and the bye week in the first round of finals that comes with it.
The Wanderers played out yet another draw on the weekend, making it seven for the season, more than any other team. Their 4-7-4 record has them in sixth place on the table, three points clear of Perth. They’ll be hunting a third consecutive finals appearance, and their fifth in six years in the competition.
The Victory are undefeated in their last six games against the Wanderers, consisting of three wins and three draws. They have only been beaten in one of their last 12 games against Western Sydney, making for one of the more dominant stretches currently in the A-League. Decent odds for the Victory here given their strong record against WSW. We like them to earn the win away from home.
TIP: Melbourne Victory to win - $2.20 at Sportsbet
Sydney FC vs Central Coast Mariners (Saturday 7.50pm AEDT)
Sydney FC played out a 0-0 draw with Adelaide last weekend, but still remain atop the A-League table by six points from their nearest opponent. If not for Newcastle’s outstanding year so far, Sydney would once again be running away with the A-League season, much like they did last year. Their 12-3-1 record so far means they are 32-9-2 over the past two seasons, proving their utter dominance over the league.
The Mariners have had a tough A-League campaign so far this season, currently sitting 8th on the table with a 3-6-7 record. They are only four points outside of the top six so will certainly not be counting themselves out yet. Although an away game against Sydney will be a really tough test here.
Interestingly, the Mariners are the only team to beat Sydney this year, after they secured a 2-0 win back in November of last year. Before that, however, the Mariners hadn’t beaten Sydney FC in nine straight games. It’s hard to see the Sky Blues dropping one at home here, especially against a Mariners tea that has lost six of their last 10 games.
TIP: Sydney FC to win to nil - $2.30 at Ladbrokes
Melbourne City vs Adelaide United (Sunday 7pm AEDT)
After a disappointing loss to WSW a few weeks ago, Melbourne City are undefeated in their last three games after playing out a 2-2 draw at Central Coast last week. They’ll welcome the return to AAMI Park this Sunday night as they host Adelaide United. Ross McCormack continues to impress for City, scoring another goal against CCM on the weekend to move to 13 on the season.
Adelaide United currently sit 5th on the EPL table with a 6-4-6 record through their opening 16 games. They are six points clear of Perth Glory in 7th position, so are odds on to make their return to the finals after missing last season. Their ability to find the back of the net has been a bit of an issue with just 19 on the season, however, their defence has been pretty rock solid.
Tough game to call here as both teams have been in solid form of late. Melbourne City have won their last two games against Adelaide, with the last of them coming back in October of last year. None of the last four fixtures between the two clubs has resulted in more than three total goals, and with the Adelaide defence looking solid, we like the unders here.
TIP: Total goals UNDER 2.5 - $1.85 at Sportsbet
