With so much soccer going on at the moment at home and abroad, we let the first part of Week 15 of the A-League slip through the cracks, however, with two games still to play in the mid-week round, we have betting previews and tips for both games. We’ll also be back later in the week with our tips for the weekend’s action, so be sure to check out our soccer page on Friday before the start of Week 16.
A-League Week 15 Betting Tips
Wellington Phoenix vs Melbourne Victory (Wednesday 5.35pm AEDT)
The Victory played out a 1-1 draw with the Central Coast Mariners on the weekend to move to 5-5-4 on the season, however, as Melbourne City and Adelaide both claimed wins, the Victory slipped to fifth on the table. They’ll face off against the last placed Phoenix this Thursday in a great chance to climb back up the table.
The Phoenix’ winless streak stretched to seven games with a loss to City on the weekend in Melbourne. They’ll welcome the return to New Zealand on Thursday but will face one of the hottest teams in the league in the Victory. Melbourne Victory start as favourites for the game at odds of $1.83, but away from home we aren’t certain that a win is on the cards for them.
One thing that is prevalent in the recent games between the two teams is the tendency to be high scoring games. 23 goals have been scored in the last 5 games between the two teams, and with Melbourne recently finding some offensive form, we think it could be another high scoring game here.
TIP: Total goals OVER 2.5 - $1.71 at Sportsbet
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Adelaide United (Wednesday 7.50pm AEDT)
The Wanderers and Adelaide United both captured great wins on the weekend, defeating the Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory respectively. The Wanderers moved into the top six with the win, while Adelaide have now forced their way into the top four. After a bunch of draws early in the season staggered their progression, the Wanderers have now won their last two games and are beginning to find the form that saw them make the finals last season.
After a tough loss to Brisbane the week before, Adelaide bounced back to beat Perth. Interestingly, Adelaide have drawn just two games all season, and haven’t tied a game in their last ten, so it could be a safe bet we see a result here.
The recent games between these two teams have been relatively low scoring, with just two of the last 15 fixtures resulting in four goals or over. The two teams have scored just 33 goals between them this year, and United have allowed the fewest, second only to Sydney FC. We think this could be a low scoring game here.
TIP: Total goals UNDER 2.5 - $1.89 at Ladbrokes
