With one mid-week game already in the bank, Round 14 of the A-League season is underway. Sydney and Newcastle tied for a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night and the games continue this Friday and Saturday night. We take a look at the key games in Round 14 and give our betting tips here.
A-League Week 14 Betting Tips
Perth Glory vs Adelaide United (Friday 10pm AEDT)
The second leg of the Friday night double header comes to us from Perth at 10pm (AEDT). The Glory will take on Adelaide United in what has become a fierce rivalry of the Western Most Australian teams over the past few years. The two teams sit fifth and sixth on the table separated by just one point, so this match will be crucial to both teams hopes of making the finals.
Both teams suffered tough losses last weekend. United went down 2-1 at home to Brisbane while Perth were absolutely decimated to the tune of 6-0 to the ladder leaders Sydney FC. Perth have the home field advantage here, but the NIB Stadium has hardly been a fortress this season, as the Glory have scored just five home goals all year.
One thing this fixture usually does produce is goals. Five of the last eight games between the two sides have resulted in three goals or more and with the defence that Perth displayed last weekend against Sydney, we think we could be in store for another high scoring affair here.

Melbourne Victory vs Central Coast Mariners (Saturday 6pm AEDT)
After a horror start to the season, the Melbourne Victory have now won their last three games, climbing to third on the table in the process. The last two weeks, in particular, have resulted in massive wins over Melbourne City and the Newcastle Jets to completely turn the Victory’s season around.
Central Coast have had an inconsistent season to say the least. With a 3-4-6 record through their opening 13 games, they currently sit second last on the table and drew with the last placed Wellington Phoenix last weekend in a game that was a great opportunity to put some pressure on the top six.
With the form that the Victory are in at the moment, combined with the home field advantage, it’s hard to see the Victory going down in this one. They have, however, found it hard to score all season long, so a low scoring draw isn’t out of the question. At $1.62 though, we think there is still value for the home side here.
TIP: Melbourne Victory to win - $1.62 at Ladbrokes
Melbourne City vs Wellington Phoenix (7.50pm AEDT)
Melbourne City have now lost their last three games in a row, and will welcome the home game against the bottom of the table Wellington Phoenix here in an attempt to get back on track. The Phoenix have just one in on the season so far, a 5-2 win at home against Perth Glory back in Week 6.
Melbourne City have won their last five games against the the Phoenix and eight of their last nine. In that nine game span, they hold a 23-6 goal difference against the Nix, displaying one of the more dominant stretches in recent A-League history.
The last three losses for the City have pushed their price out to what we actually think is great value. Given the Phoenix’ form at the moment, City should be paying around $1.30-40 so we think the $1.60 on offer is great value.
TIP: Melbourne City to win - $1.60 at Sportsbet
