Another tough week for us in the EPL as we hit on 2 out of 5 bets once again. All of the games were played in our favour but we just couldn’t get the results with both Leicester and Chelsea ending with draws where they probably should have won. It keeps our win/loss record at 40% on the year with a total loss of 4.52 units. Will aim to claw that back this weekend as we preview the key games in Week 6 of the EPL season below.
EPL Week 6 Betting Tips
West Ham vs Tottenham (Saturday 9.30pm AEST)
After losing their first three matches, West Ham has been able to secure 4 points through their last two games and are slowing clawing their way up the table. They’ll get a tough matchup this weekend, however, as they take on the Hotspurs at Olympic Stadium in the early Saturday night game.
Tottenham have looked shaky to start the season. A decent win over Everton in Week 4 was sandwiched by two home draws against Burnley and Swansea that they really should have won. They sit fifth on the table with a 2-2-1 record and will want a win here if they hope to stay in contact with the runaway trio at the top of the table.
The Spurs maintained a ridiculous 75% possession against Swansea on the weekend and peppered the Swans goals to the tune of 26 shot attempts. They should have similar control over the ball against West Ham and so far, this season they have looked better away from home than they have at the makeshift home ground, Wembley Stadium. Should win this one.
TIP: Tottenham -1 - $2.60 at Sportsbet (1 unit)
Southampton vs Manchester United (Sunday 12am AEST)
Manchester United were dominant over Everton on the weekend, plundering four goals from their 16 shot attempts to beat the Toffees convincingly. Southampton on the other hand, were anything but convincing against Crystal Palace. After a 6th minute goal that came about from a Palace blunder, Southampton looked like the worse team on the field as Palace had 14 shot attempts. They were able to hold on for a 1-0 win, however, to move to 2-2-1 on the season.
The Red Devils will still be without star midfielder Paul Pogba for the clash but have decent depth in the middle of the ground with Nemanja Matic and Marouane Fellaini to pick up the slack.
After losing some serious firepower in the likes of Graziano Pelle up front last year, the Saints have looked shaky going forward, having to rely on Ben Long and Steven Davis too much. We think Manchester United put at least 2 or 3 on the board here and earn the victory away from home
TIP: Manchester United to win - $1.72 at Ladbrokes (2 units)
Manchester City vs Crystal Palace (Sunday 12am AEST)
Probably the biggest mismatch of the week sees leaders Manchester City face off against bottom of the table Crystal Palace. Manchester are fresh off a 5-0 win over Liverpool in Week 4 and a 6-0 decimation of Watford on the weekend and look absolutely unstoppable in attack. Sergio Aguero has scored 4 goals over the two games to lead the golden boot over Lukaku, Vardy and teammate Gabriel Jesus.
On the contrary, Crystal Palace have lost all five of their games so far and are yet to score a single goal in the EPL. They did capture a 1-0 win over Huddersfield in the English League Cup on Wednesday but will have a massive uphill battle at Etihad Stadium on the weekend.
Palace put some real pressure on the Southampton goals in Week 5 but playing against Manchester City is a different kettle of fish. They haven’t been able to put up a gosome of the easier teams in the league through the first five weeks so its hard to see them doing so here.
TIP: Manchester City to win to nil - $1.80 at Sportsbet (1.5 units)
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Newcastle (Monday 1am AEST)
After starting their season with two ordinary losses to Tottenham and Huddersfield, Newcastle have bounced back in a big way to win their last three games. They get another really winnable game here against Brighton as they look to solidify their standing in the top four.
Brighton were competitive against Bournemouth on the weekend but ultimately couldn’t get the rewards, going down 2-1 to give them a 1-1-3 record on the season so far. Their one win for the season has come at home against West Brom back in Week 4.
Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez seems to have turned the fortunes of Newcastle around and with an exciting looking attacking trio of Christian Atsu, Joselu and Ayoze Perez, we think the Magpies represent real value here as underdogs away from home.
TIP: Newcastle to win - $2.80 at Ladbrokes (1 unit)
Leicester vs Liverpool (Sunday 2.30am AEST)
After a 4-0 win over Arsenal back in Week 3, the Liverpool bandwagon was overflowing and dreams of returning to the Champions League were being discussed. Since then the Reds were decimated by Manchester City to the tune of 5-0, followed by a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Burnley.
Even with Brazilian star Coutinho back in the lineup, Liverpool still looks a bit stagnant going forward and have had to rely on recruit Mohamed Salah for the majority of their creativeness. They will travel to Leicester this weekend to take on the Foxes who have been much better than their 1-1-3 record would suggest with losses to Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.
Leicester knocked off Liverpool on Wednesday in the English League Cup and will get another crack at them on the weekend. At $4 for them to win is massive overs here and we are happy to take them at the double chance.
TIP: Leicester and draw (double chance) - $1.83 at Sportsbet (1 unit)
