We went just 1 of 3 on our UEFA Champions League Week 3 betting tips, however, the one win we did get came at odds of $4 as we predicted Chelsea and Roma to battle out a draw. We’ll look to improve this week as the UCL continues and we get the reverse legs of a couple of weeks back in Week 4 this Wednesday and Thursday morning.
Roma vs Chelsea (Wednesday 6.45am AEST)
As we mentioned above, Roma and Chelsea fought out a 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge a few week ago and will meet in Italy this Wednesday morning. Chelsea can all but secure passage into the knockout stage with a win as they sit two points clear on top of the tough Group C that also includes Atletico Madrid.
A Roma win combined with a Madrid victory over group minnows Qarabag FK will mean that the three top teams will be separated by just three points. Roma outplayed the Blues in London in their last meeting, maintaining most of the possession and controlling the general flow of the game. If they play the same way at home they should be hard to beat.
Chelsea’s star winger Eden Hazard has been working himself into some form over the last few domestic competition games and scored the Blues only goal in their win over Bournemouth on the weekend. Chelsea have looked underwhelming in their last few contests in the Premier League, however, so we like the Italian side at home here.
TIP: Roma to win - $2.55 at Ladbrokes
Liverpool vs Maribor (Thursday 6.45am AEST)
Not the sexiest matchup over the two days but one that represents some great value in our eyes as Liverpool take on Maribor Thursday morning. Liverpool have been scoring goals for fun in their last few matches. A massive 7-0 win over Maribor a few weeks ago was backed up by a 3-0 win over Huddersfield in the EPL on the weekend.
Maribor are a force to be reckoned with in the Slovenian PrvaLiga but coming up against some of the top teams in the world they look a touch behind the pace. They have a 0-1-2 record through their three UCL games so far this year and already have a massive -10 goal difference.
Liverpool still have a lot to fight for here even though Group E is arguably the easiest group in the competition this year. Two draws in their opening three games means they sit level with Spartak Moskva on top of the table and just one point ahead of third placed Sevilla. They cant afford to drop a game at home here so should come out with a full squad ready to fire. Similar result could be on the cards.
TIP: Total goals OVER 4.5 - $2.10 at Sportsbet
Tottenham vs Real Madrid (Thursday 6.45am AEST)
Some miraculous goalkeeping by Hugo Lloris a few weeks ago helped Tottenham hold on for a 1-1 draw in Real Madrid. They’ll get their ‘home’ leg this week as they host Real Madrid at their makeshift home ground, Wembley.
With Tottenham and Real Madrid both topping Group H on seven points, third placed Borussia Dortmund will be desperate for a result here to keep their hopes alive in the group of death. A draw will all but secure both teams path to the knockout stage, however, we think Real Madrid in particular will be on the aggressive looking for the points to secure that coveted first place finish.
Tottenham star striker Harry Kane has been absent from the Spurs last two Premier League clashes with a hamstring injury but boss Mauricio Pochettino is confident that he will be fit for the matchup against Real. Real Madrid will be without former Spur Gareth Bale, but we still give them the edge here going by their performance in the 1-1 draw in which they control possession and looked the more aggressive team.
TIP: Real Madrid to win - $2.15 at Sportsbet
