We hit on one out of two Champions League betting tips last weekend as the semi-final matchups got underway with a couple of great games. We’ll be looking to go one better this week as we give our tips for the second legs of the semi final ties below.
Real Madrid vs FC Bayern Munich (Wednesday 4.45am AEST)
Really tough prospect here for Bayern Munich as they went down 2-1 at home last week and will now need to win by two goals or more in Real Madrid to advance straight through to the final. They took a 1-09 lead in the 28th minute of their leg one game through a Joshua Kimmich goal before Marcelo and Marco Asensio hit back for Real Madrid to capture the away win.
It’s the first home loss Bayern have suffered at home in this Champions League season and with a fired up Ronaldo heading into leg two, it will be extremely tough for them to advance here. It makes it tougher given the fact that no team has ever overturned a 2-1 home first leg defeat in the Champions League in the last seven attempts.
The head to head record between these two teams is pretty even in European competition with Real holding 12 wins and Bayern claiming 11 wins through their 25 games. However, Bayern have lost their last six in a row to Real Madrid.
Bayern definitely aren’t out of this by any means and I don’t think it’s in Real Madrid’s nature to play defensively to hold onto a lead. Both teams should come out pretty aggressive here looking to put this one to bed so I expect a high scoring game, especially if there is an early goal either way.
TIP: Total goals OVER 3.5 - $2 at Sportsbet
Roma vs Liverpool (Thursday 4.45am AEST)
What an exciting time for Liverpool fans. Last week the Reds captured a massive 5-2 home win over Roma and will head into leg two as the red hot favourites to advance to their first Champions League final since the 2006-07 season when they lost to Milan.
After being 5-0 down, Roma were able to crucially sneak two late goals in the 81st and 85th minutes respectively to give themselves a glimmer of hope heading into the second leg. They did overcome a three goal deficit in the quarter finals against Barcelona, and a 3-0, 4-1 or better scorecard would see them advance here.
It’s a massive ask against a Liverpool team that has been scoring for fun lately. If Liverpool manage to get one early goal on the board, it could completely close the door on Roma, and odds are Liverpool will play a little more defensively in this one to try and ice the game by around the 60th minute.
I actually like Roma to win this game but don’t think they’ll do enough to qualify.
TIP: Roma to win - $2.60 at Ladbrokes
