After two great runs through the knockout tournament, Chelsea will face off against Arsenal at Wembley Stadium for the 2016-17 FA Cup this Sunday morning at 2.30am (AEST).
Arsenal will be hunting their third FA Cup in four seasons on Sunday morning and a win will move them to 13 total wins, one above Manchester United for the record number of titles. The two teams have dominated the FA Cup over the last decade, after this weekend’s game the Cup will have been won by Chelsea or Arsenal 7 of the last 11 years.
Anonio Conte will be looking to cap off a great first season as Chelsea coach which saw the Blues win the EPL title with games to spare. It will be the second time the two teams have met in an FA Cup final, with the Gunners coming out victorious 2-0 back in 2002. However, since then the Blues have won all of their last four FA Cup finals in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012 so their Wembley form is great coming into the game.
If John Terry is named in the squad it will likely be the last time he ever suits up for Chelsea, with the 4-time FA Cup Champions Captain leaving the club at the end of the season. The Blues have lost just twice in their last 13 games against the Gunners in all competitions, which is a damming stat for Arsene Wenger’s men.
If Wenger goes through this season without qualifying for the Champions League and fails to pick up any silverware it could be the end of his 22-year stint at Arsenal with many pundits already calling for his head. Arsenal will be without key defender Laurent Koscielny for the clash who was served a three match ban for foul play in the Gunners last regular season match against Everton.
The final of a major tournament is always tough to pick a winner because anything can happen in one game but we have to look at the form here. Chelsea have had a dominant season and have won 8 of their last 13 against the Gunners, their odds aren’t great but you can’t look past the domestic champions here.
