After three out of the four Leg 1 fixtures saw the underdog claim victory, the Leg 2 games of the UEFA Champions League Quarters Finals take place this Wednesday and Thursday morning. We take a look at all four clashes and give our betting tips below.
UEFA Champions Quarter Finals Leg 2 Betting Tips
Leicester City vs Atletico Madrid (Wednesday 4.45am AEST)
Although they lost the game, the Foxes did remarkably well to keep the margin to just one goal, giving them a massive chance heading into their home leg at Leicester. The English side were also able to overcome a one goal 1st leg deficit in the Round of 16 when they defeated Sevilla 2-0 at home. Atletico are a different beast, however, and the Foxes will have to be at their counter-attacking best if they are to pinch a W here.
Madrid maintained a healthy 68% possession last week and mustered 14 shots for the game. If they continue to pepper the sticks like they did in leg 1 it’s hard not to see them scoring at least one goal, meaning the Foxes would have to score 3 to advance. It’ll be a really tough test for Leicester and while I could see them potentially finding the back of the net a few times, advancing might be out of the question.
TIP: Total goals OVER 2.5 - $2.18 at Unibet
Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich (Wednesday 4.45am AEST)
Last week’s fixture between these two teams saw the massive underdog in Real Madrid claim victory and take a 2-1 lead heading into their home leg on Wednesday morning. The Spanish side will only need to hold on to a draw to advance to the last 4 of the 2017 UEFA Champions League.
Not team in their last 5 attempts has managed to overcome a 2-1 defecit heading into the away leg of their Champions League fixture, putting the history with the Spanish side. Real Madrid have also never failed to score in any of their last 34 games home Champions League games. If they can manage to just score at least a goal, it’ll make it near impossible for Bayern to advance.
TIP: Real Madrid to qualify - $1.30 at Sportsbet
Barcelona vs Juventus (Thursday 4.45am AEST)
To Barcelona’s credit, the Spanish giants have been in worse positions than this already this Champions League and still managed to qualify. The miraculous comeback against PSG can only be described as highway robbery and many won’t be writing off their chances of qualifying here against Juventus.
Juventus will take a 3-0 advantage into the game after Argentine Paulo Dybala exploded for a brace in game one last week. No team has ever overcome a 3-0 deficit in the quarter final stage, however, Barcelona are widely regarded as the best team in the world for a reason, and I feel comfortable taking the value option of them to qualify here.
TIP: Barcelona to qualify - $6 at bet365
Monaco vs Borussia Dortmund (Thursday 4.45am AEST)
Shocking circumstances saw the Leg 1 fixture between Dortmund and Monaco postponed last week when a bomb went off in close proximity to the German team’s bus. Monaco were able to come out victorious in the rescheduled match, taking a 3-2 lead into their home leg this Thursday.
Hard to picture what type of a mindset the Dortmund team will be in here, recent interviews with players have shown them justifiably stating that they couldn’t really care less about the matchup. Will stay away from this one.
