2014 Sate of Origin – Game 2
Where: ANZ Stadium
When: Wednesday, June 18th at 8:00pm AEST
Over the last week we’ve seen two series end, first the LA Kings defeated the NY Rangers in the Stanley Cup, and then the San Antonio Spurs Defeated Lebron’s Miami Heat in the NBA Championship. On Wednesday evening there is a chance that the State of Origin will come to an end as well if the Blues overcome the Maroons. However, we are not so sure that will be the case.
New South Wales are looking to break the 8 year origin drought and this game 2 is possibly their best hope. In the past 8 years, only once has Queensland had a clean sweep, so it’s not unusual for them to drop a game. That being said they are now on the back foot. In game 1 we saw NSW narrowly defeat QLD in a nail biter, so now, the question is, can they use the momentum from that win with the Home State advantage? We don’t think so.
With both Morris brothers out, NSW selectors have brought in Hopoate and Dugan, both first class in attack, but lacking in defence. Paul Gallen has declared himself fit for game 2, despite acknowledging he hasn't been able to do any contact work in training, couple that with his move to the front line and I'm expecting him to have far less impact in game 2. After an exceptional performance in game 1, Jarryd Hayne has been touted as the newest Origin king. Will he be able to fulfil his destiny?
The fitness of the Queensland team is the main concern. Greg Inglis looks to be playing with an injury, but he's a monster so don't expect it to slow him down too much. Slater is back for game 2 despite not playing a single minute since Game 1 and he could still have a big impact. Daly Cherry-Evans’ knee is a huge concern, the likely scenario Ben Hunt taking his place, though with Cherry-Evans as a game-time decision, but this could all be a Mal Meninga mind game. Big Sammy Thaiday makes his Origin return in the second row, and after game 1’s result the Maroons will be extra motivated to take control early.
We’re expecting Queensland to come out strong and hold the Blues to a minimum. Just too much value on the underdogs at around the $2.40 mark here.
Bet On: QLD to win outright (~$2.40)
For those keen on exotic bets, I’m taking a look at the first try market. Like the look of Darius Boyd once again after snagging the first try in Game 1. Boyd is strong off the line, and with the maroons history of going left, he’s always a main target. Take him at double figures if you are feeling cheeky.
Exotic Play: Darius Boyd First Try at $11.50
