South Africa vs Australia 2nd T20 Betting Tips
Kingsmead, Durban, Saturday 2nd September, 2am (AEST)
Preview
It was a strong performance for the Aussies in the opening game in Kingsmead on Thursday morning. Being sent into bat, Australia got off to a shaky start, losing Travis Head in the opening over. New skipper Mitch Marsh steadied the ship for the Australians, blasting 92 off just 49 balls to lead his team to a great score of 226. Tim David played an important supporting role, coming in when Australia were 4-77. The hard hitting all-rounder smashed 64 off just 28 balls to put on a 97 run partnership with Marsh.
There wasn’t a lot to like about the South African bowling performance outside of paceman Lizaad Williams, who took 3/44 off his four overs. The South Africans will likely opt for a four man pace attack once again on Saturday morning, as the pitch looked to favour seam up bowling.
In reply, the South Africans could muster just 115, with only opener Reeza Hendricks putting up a fight, scoring 56 off 43 balls. Debutant spinner Tanveer Sangha was the pick of the bowlers for the Australians, taking 4-31 off his four overs.
Prediction
Given these are largely warm up games for the upcoming ODI World Cup, I can see the Australias making a few changes for the 2nd game despite their strong win. Nathan Ellis seems a likely inclusion if one of the Aussie pace bowlers needs a rest while the selectors would do well to get a white ball hit into Steve Smith.
Hard to bet against the Australians after their dominant performance in Game 1. Still have massive concerns over this South African top order. They’ve barely proven themselves at international level outside of probably Aiden Markram, and they failed the test in the first game, falling to 5-69 after just 8.4 overs.
Back the Aussies to win at $1.58.
Player Prop Quick Tips
Matt Short Over 19.5 Runs ($1.90) - Short looked really ominous in G1 before skying one off Williams to be dismissed for 20. Himself and Marsh got the innings started at such a fast pace that I think he was hamstrung by the need to keep pushing and not settle into his innings. Is one of the more in-form T20 batsmen in the world at the moment, like his line here.
Marco Jansen Over 29.5 Player Performance ($1.85) - Really like the Jansen line here for player performance. He is one bowler that can give the Aussie batsmen real issues with his ability to swing the ball both ways and his extra bounce. I also think he will get a good opportunity with the bat given the flaws of the SA top order. Had 50 points in G1.
