Rosehill Preview & Betting Tips: Saturday, November 9th
Best Bet: Race 1 - (4) Lucicello
Best Value: Race 7 - (12) Nicci's Gold
Race 1 (Market)
Looks a win for (4) Lucicello to open the card here. She's a smart filly. They attempted to lead with her first up last preparation but it didn't work out and since then they've ridden her cold to great effect. She bolted in at both Kensington and Rosehill before placing behind Dawn Passage and True Detective. She just needs to run to that sort of form to be winning this.
Race 2 (Market)
I'm pretty keen on (7) Acquittal each way here in the Highway Handicap. He looks perfectly suited. He's had two runs back from a break and both have been in Highway Handicaps, which are often the best form references for future Highway Handicaps. He was beaten 2L first up in a decent Highway and then 2.8L last start, when he only got clear late in the race. His only career win came third up, he ran 2nd at his only previous start at this track and distance, he's drawn well in barrier 5 and Jason Collett is a strong jockey booking.
Race 3 (Market)
(4) Angel Of Heaven is ready to win and this looks her race. She's placed in all three starts back from a spell and now steps up to 2400m. From her last three starts last campaign, it appears as though the rise in trip is what she's now looking for and she gets every chance from barrier 2. Jason Collett takes over with Nash Rawiller riding in Melbourne and I'd expect her to be winning this. The Waller runners are always the ones to be wary of in these distance races and he's got no less than four runners engaged.
(4) Angel Of Heaven
$2.25
Race 4 (Market)
An open race here with two at decent prices I'm interested in having something on. (4) Stryke Rock was racing well before her six-week break and she hasn't had much go right for her in her two runs back. Last start she was only 1.4L off the winner Romani Girl and ran the best final 800m despite not really getting clear the entire straight. James Doyal is a strong booking and he looks an each way chance at $10. (10) California Longbow didn't get much luck first up and then ran 4th behind Pancho and Romani Girl last start. Pancho went to Melbourne and won on Thursday, while Romani Girl then came out and won her next start, so the form looks strong. Tim Clark takes over today third up from a spell and he rates highly at $7.00.
Value: (4) Stryke Rock $10
(10) California Longbow
$7.00
Race 5 (Market)
Maximum field for a country race here and I won't be getting too involved but (17) Emanuela goes on top. She's won her past three starts and the form out of her last start has proven to be very strong. The horses that ran 2nd and 3rd behind her last start in a Highway Handicap have both come out and won their next starts. She gets in even better at the weights against horses she's been beating and she looks a big chance again today.
Race 6 (Market)
The 2YO Golden Gift worth a million dollars and we have a full field with five first starters included. I won't be betting much here at all but I'll go with the Snowden colt (7) Blaze A Trail on top with Tim Clark on board. He bolted in in his first trial, winning by 6.5L and followed that with another trial victory two weeks later. Blinkers are applied for race day and this stable certainly knows how to get the juveniles ready. I don't have much interest in the race.
Race 7 (Market)
Competitive affair as you'd expect for a G2 fillies and mares race. Five chances to highlight. (10) Reelem In Ruby goes on top. She was nosed out of it by (7) Madam Rouge last start over 1200m but I think the 1400m third up from a spell suits her better. She's drawn well in barrier 3 so will be up on speed getting a beautiful run, Tim Clark is booked to ride and she's never missed a place from nine career starts, so rates highly. I think the value in the race is (12) Nicci's Gold at $19. She ran home in the best final 400m of the race behind Madam Rouge and Reelem In Ruby first up to be beaten 1.7L. That was a good effort considering she's only ever placed once from seven starts when first up. But if you look at her second up record, it tells you she improves out of sight with a run under her belt, because she's won four of her six starts when second up. She's probably better on soft ground than firm ground but Jason Collett is booked to ride and if she can overcome her wide gate, she could be a big player at big odds. Another at value is (9) Moss Trip who didn't get much luck in the same race last start, while (13) Vinicunca was very well backed first up in Melbourne and should be respected.
Value: (12) Nicci's Gold $19
(10) Reelem In Ruby
$4.80
Race 8 (Market)
(5) Trumboll is knocking on the door with three placings from as many starts this preparation. He missed the start by 2L last start but was still only beaten a nose at Warwick Farm. Rebel Miss has come out of that race and won her next start so the form has been given a boost. Senior rider Tim Clark takes over today and the horse would just have to repeat his last run to be very hard to beat today. Wary of (3) Echo Jet first up.
Race 9 (Market)
Not particularly confident closing out the day here but I'll stick with (7) Bergen who I've been with all prep. He was only narrowly defeated first up before being run down late last start. Back to 1400m, he should go forward and either lead or sit outside the leader and I think getting to Rosehill probably suits his racing style. Should be at his peak fitness third up from a spell and will be in the finish.
