Our resident horse racing expert @Tim_Tips had a small case of insomnia overnight, so what better way to kill time than look through the form for today's horse races?! He's found FIVE runners to back across the country today, with some glaring statistics to back up his selections. We head to Coffs Harbour, Nowra and Ipswich - check out the selections below.
RACING BEST BETS: Tuesday, October 2nd
Trainer Toby Edmonds has had seven runners at Coffs Harbour in the past 12 months. From those seven runners, he’s had four winners and two placings. He has two runners going around at Coffs today – Race 3 #1 Impregnable and Race 5 #3 Rumbrella. Impregnable is first up today over 1000m. He’s had two trials leading into this, has a good first up record (5:2-1-0) and has won three from four at the distance. It might be worth having a saver bet on #6 Super Tonic who has won 5/5 at the track.
Rumbrella is on debut with just one trial under the belt. He debuts with the blinkers on for the first time today but does draw very wide. Comes up against a Kris Lees horse which is the $1.80 favourite but I think he’s vulnerable at that price and given Edmonds’ record with his runners at this track, Rumbrella might be worth an each way bet at $5.00/$1.80.
Edmonds also has a positive record at Ipswich and has one runner going around there today – Race 4 #7 She Goes Pop, who looks a very good winning chance. She shares favouritism with #2 Hotel Coste, but despite that horse having a good record at the track, he's never placed from five starts at the distance and is useless on wet ground.
Speaking of hot strike rates, it’s a similar story for trainer Mark Newnham at Nowra – he’s had eight runners at Nowra in the past 12 months, producing three winners and five 2nd placings! He’s had two runners at Nowra this season and both won. He takes one horse there today. That horse is #4 Graterra in Race 1. He’s on debut with two trials under his belt, the latest of which was a vast improvement on his first one. He draws barrier 1 and gets the blinkers on for the first time. Again, with Newnham’s strike rate at this track (eight runners, seven top two finishes!), he’s definitely worth backing at $3.80 (or load up on the $1.62 place). This is my best bet of the day.
My final bet is in Race 3 at Nowra, where Gary Portelli has his only runner for the day in the form of #1 Quick Finance. He led all the way on debut at Kembla and should find the front again easily today. Portelli has a 27% strike rate at Nowra in the past 12 months and a 111% ROI. He’s had two runners there this season for one winner. Quick Finance is the $2.50 favourite.
