AFL Round 14 Preview & Betting Tips
North Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs
Sunday 4:40pm AEST, June 18th, Marvel Stadium
A couple of teams on losing streaks will face each other in the final fixture of AFL Round 14, with North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs set to meet at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Kangaroos have lost 11 on the spin since starting the season 2-0, while the Bulldogs have lost three in a row although they still have seven wins to their name in 2023.
It’s fair to say neither club is oozing with confidence at the moment, but this also presents an excellent opportunity for either team to secure an elusive win and head into their Round 15 bye feeling a bit better about themselves.
The Kangaroos, although failing to win for nearly three months, have been a lot more competitive over the last four rounds under interim coach Brett Ratten. They’ve been within a goal of registering a win twice in the past month and are earning valuable experience for their young stars.
Speaking of young stars, they have unveiled a couple of them this season that have the potential to change the fortunes of the team going forward. Harry Sheezel was first to make his mark across half back early in the season, while George Wardlaw debuted four weeks ago and looks a ready-made midfielder and a superstar of the future.
For the Bulldogs, their drop in form has seemingly come out of nowhere as it was only three weeks ago they were riding a five-match win streak. They’ve since fallen to the Suns, Cats, and most recently the Power.
Despite their drop in form, the Dogs have a number of players in career-best form. Marcus Bontempelli is putting together another Brownlow-worth season, while Tom Liberatore is putting up the best numbers of his illustrious career.
However, it’s the defence that has been letting the Dogs down during their losing streak. They’ve given up 84, 97, and 107 points across their last three games. And In an attempt to try and limit opposition scores, Coach Luke Beveridge has tossed the magnets around over the past fortnight, but it seems it’s only resulted in more confusion and less cohesiveness.
With that said, I see this as another potential danger game for the DogsIf they’re not on their game early, the young Roos will build in confidence and could prove to be hard to put away.

Nick Larkey 2+ Goals – I haven’t been impressed with the Bulldogs defence in recent weeks and Larkey is good enough to take advantage here. Expecting multiple goals from him.
Harry Sheezel 20+ Disposals – Has only missed the 20-disposals mark once this season and that was when he copped a tag a couple of months ago. He gets to 20 again here.
George Wardlaw 20+ Disposals – Another young gun that has made his mark in recent weeks. Coming off a 22-disposal outing last round and will get plenty of midfield time again.
