Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, June 4th
Wyong Race 1 - (Market)
(3) April Thunder has had four starts to date, he placed on debut back on Boxing Day last year but hasn’t shown much at the other three starts. He resumed at Canterbury over 1250m, she didn’t have a lot of room in the run home and stuck on well when clear over the last furlong. She then jumped up to 1300m at Hawkesbury, she was back and wide in the run and didn’t seem to handle the track at all. She was well beaten but happy to forgive that run, her second-up run was a shocker at her first prep also. She gets a good set-up here stepping up to the mile for the first time and should get a soft run on the inside, a drying track should also assist. Play her each-way in an open race.
(3) April Thunder E/W
$6.50
Wyong Race 4 - (Market)
(1) Crimlet won her maiden at Gosford last prep and followed it up with a win against the girls at her first go out of that grade. She was in the paddock for 4 months and had trialed only fairly prior to resuming at Hawkesbury a month ago She was well supported late to start a $4 favourite, she wasn’t given much hope the way she was ridden four-wide without cover through the early parts of the race. Her only other second-up run was that maiden win at Gosford, with the wide draw and the long run to the first turn, she should be able to get to the spot outside the speed cheaply and dictate the race from there.
Wangaratta Race 1 - (Market)
Please note: this selection has been scratched this morning.
Twelve first-starters go around in the first at Wangaratta so the betting will tell us more. (11) Twain’s Express opened in double figures and has had a slight push early which is what I was looking for. She had two jump-outs in the Spring before being sent back to the paddock and given more time, with two more un-official trials this time in. Both were at Mornington and it was the latest one that caught my eye. She was fairly away but was eased back to second-last, angled wide on the turn to track up deep off the track. She was ridden along ion the turn and I loved the way she accelerated when she balanced up in the straight, finding the line well. There was a big gap back to third, the winner is also a McArdle runner that you may want to keep your eye out for, So Let’s Toast. He is also un-raced. A eplay of that jum-out can be found here.
(11) Twain's Express E/W
$7.50
Wangaratta Race 2 - (Market)
Damien Oliver makes the 500 klm round-journey to Wangaratta for two rides today, the first is a 2YO in the first, (10) Nota Single Secret in R2 completes his book of rides. She has obviously had some issues as she debuted more than a year ago at Sandown, she placed and was well beaten but never looked likely in what was a much harder maiden than this. She was good at a recent jump-out at Sandown, drops a stack in grade back to this type of maiden, and let's be honest, Olly wouldn’t be driving here for nothing? (Monitor the first-starter in the race previous to this also).
(10) Nota Single Secret
$3.20
