Horse Racing Tips: Monday, April 6th
Ballarat Race 1 - (Market)
A Heavy 10 to consider here at Ballarat which always makes it difficult, especially for those that we have not seen before. (3) Audacious Heart has been to the official trials once and to the jump-outs twice, the latest of those at Flemington is the one that I was really impressed with. She jumped well and showed good speed to lead, she sat out in the middle of the track around the bend and accelerated well when straightening without really being pushed out. She finished second after the winner took all the shortcuts, he is already a winner and placed at Listed level. A replay of that jump-out (heat 3) can be found here.
(3) Audacious Heart
$3.80
Ballarat Race 2 - (Market)
(5) Billjim went to the races twice at his first prep and handled the soft track well when placing on debut after showing speed, so we will assume he will handle the bog track today. He was beaten a at a very short quote at his second start after sitting wide without cover and was sent to the paddock. He has had three jump-outs in preparation for this, the latest at Caulfield a week ago. He began well but was given time to settle about 6 lengths off the lead, as he approached the last furlong he was clicked up and moved nicely between runners and was strong through the line. A replay of the jump-out (heat9) can be found here. Interestingly he raced at his first two starts with blinkers on, today they come off for the first time and he was without them at the trials also.
Scone Race 4 - (Market)
(1) Chief Kidder doesn’t win out of turn, he has only saluted four times in more than 50 trips to the races, but there was a lot to like about his last start victory. He was in a similar race to this and got a charmed run on the rails, eased to the middle of the track and ran over the top of them to score easily. The key with him is getting that easy run in transit, he gets the inside draw and should get it. He only has to carry an extra half a kilo into this, he probably won’t want the track too wet. He looks a decent each-way bet and there will be double figure odds around at some stage of betting.
(1) Chief Kidder E/W
$8.50
Queanbeyan Race 4 - (Market)
The soft track should not be a problem for (3) Eaglehawk, he has placed at 3 of 5 when racing on rain affected surfaces. Two starts ago he was here at the track in an easier race, began well and led all the way to win by more than 6 lengths after being well backed. He then went to Goulburn a little over two weeks ago, he looked to have his chance after sitting behind the speed but was a little flat. He didn’t seem to like being in behind them, up to the mile and from the good draw, I expect they will be looking for the top. If he gets a couple of cheap sectionals early, they won’t be running him down.
