The Country Championship Wild Card qualifier at Muswellbrook headlines a big day of country and provincial racing this afternoon. Luke Krahe has offered his best bets from around the country below!
Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, March 22nd
Ballarat Race 2 - (Market)
(4) Boom Boom Becker has only been to the races when the Corstens team sent him across the border into SA a month ago. He was bumped when jumping and settled a mile back in the run over 1000m, he saved ground near last approaching the turn before angling wider at the furlong. He ran on very hard late to only be beaten a length and a half. The race has proven a good form reference with two horses out of it coming through and winning their respective maidens. He looks suited getting out in trip and should be able to settle closer, the big track suits.

Ballarat Race 5 - (Market)
(5) Tooradin was entered in the Mornington Guineas on Saturday and didn’t look out of place, he drops back to a 64 against his own age group. He was having his second start at Pakenham a little over a fortnight ago and was well supported late, after being slowly away he settled further back than what we saw at his debut. He came the widest on the turn before powering home over the top. The form out of that race has been a ripper. The runner-up has come out and placed again, the third horse bolted in at Sandown during the week and the horse that ran seventh won its maiden during the week also. I expect that he will be heavily backed and take the black odds whilst you can get them!
Muswellbrook Race 7 - (Market)
The feature of the day at Muswellbrook is the Wildcard to get into the Country Champs final. I went looking for some value and found the Cody Morgan trained (6) Over And Above, a stablemate to the likely SP favourite (5) Mahalangur. Over And Avobe is resuming and has placed at all three previous runs when fresh and the intent is show with the blinkers going back on. The two Morgan runners came through the same trial, there wasn’t a lot between them in the end with neither really stretching out. A replay of that trial can be found here. Tactics will be crucial early but I just think the difference in price is too great, back him win and place.
(6) Over And Above E/W
$11
Orange Race 1 - (Market)
(6) Photogenic is an interesting runner for recent G1 winning trainer Richard Litt. He was on debut at Mudgee in a harder maiden than this and there was some support for him at double figure odds. He had the blinkers on that day, reared in the barriers and took no competitive part, was tailed off out the back throughout. He had to go to the trials which he did 4 days later at Warick Farm, he was again only fairly away and last in the run. I really liked the way he ran through the line though, the winner of that trial cameo out and won out of maiden grade yesterday at Queanbeyan. The key here is that he takes the blinkers off which hopefully will sort out the barrier issues, the heart will be pounding when the light goes on, of he jumps away with them I can see him running a huge race. It is a big IF though.
