One big week of horse racing has come to an end, but another big week starts with racing at Tamworth and Geelong this afternoon. Check out our best bets for each track below!
Horse Racing Tips: Monday, September 30th
Tamworth Race 3
There are a few unknowns, especially from those on debut. (5) Young Cranach is a Lucas Cranach first starter for Kris Lees, he will need further and has trialed poorly. (4) Hardyo is a debutant by All Too Hard that has trialed ok. We have settled on one that has been to the races once, (10) Misterzee. Those that backed him that day won’t have forgotten it, he was very easy in the betting and eventually started double figure odds. He was snagged back to last over 1300m and stuck away on the rails. He was eased wider approaching the straight still well back, was running on hard before hitting the back of one at about the furlong pole. He balanced up again and hit the line well, officially beaten about a length and a half but there is no doubt he should have nearly won. He looks suited getting out in trip and hopefully they don’t ride him so negatively early.
Tamworth Race 4
Sticking with Kris Lees again but this time we go from Gibbo riding to Bullock, an upgrade if anything. (1) Mr Piquet resumed from a spell after 20 weeks on the sidelines as a 7-start maiden. He went to Kempsey and was very solid in the betting as favourite, sat mid-field before running on hard to win in a race that has proven a good form reference, two more horses have won out of it since. His first go out of maiden grade was at Muswellbrook a fortnight ago, again he started favouritre. He got a soft run on the rails mid-field, was running on well in the straight but the rider had to stop and straighten the horse as he layed in late. He probably should have won the race had he gone straight, interestingly the blinkers have come off today for the first time. Drawn perfectly, anything in black figures looks a gift.
Geelong Race 4
(7) Lord Markel has only been to the races once and was runner-up in a harder maiden than this at Cranbourne. He had trialed fairly going into that debut but was double figure odds and didn’t have a lot of support. He wasn’t the best away but settled midfield, eased wide approaching the straight before running on hard to narrowly miss. He gets an extra furlong here which looks ideal and is back on top of the ground for the first time, both his trial and debut were on rain affected tracks. Back in this type of maiden and drawn well, expect him to settle closer and lose the maiden tag.
Geelong Race 8
We target a BM58 which I think is fair to say not one of the greatest fields ever come together, but something has to win the race! Looking for something not near the top of the market, I have settled on (7) Allageri on an each way basis. He doesn’t win out of turn but that can be said about most BM58 horses that are not straight out of maiden grade, he doesn’t have a lot of speed and is coming back in trip. A few negatives but I think he will get the right run into and I have the speed to be on. He will be a drifter in the betting no doubt with his record, wait until late to bet and I certainly wouldn’t be taking any price not in double figures. Maskiell hopefully rides him like he needs to be making a long run and he should be able to grind into a placing. More for the place than for the win if that is your thing.
