Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Monday, September 16th.
We kick off the new week of racing with meetings at Bairnsdale, Muswellbrook and Corowa. Luke Krahe has picked out his best bets below!
Horse Racing Tips: Monday, September 16th
Bairnsdale Race 2 (Market)
(13) Teebo has had two runs back this prep, fresh she was at Moe wand unwanted in the betting and was obviously underdone. She had a soft run in transit and only battled. She then had a month between runs and went to Warracknabeal, this time there was some good money for her from double figures into an SP of $7.50. She sat behind the leaders and hit the line as well as any to finish second but did have her chance. She should be fully wound up here in what is her first ever third-up run and draws to get a cheap run again, I like the fence here at Bairnsdale and saving ground into the straight. The jockey change may just be a curveball to get a better price?
Bairnsdale Race 7 (Market)
(8) Allageri has only won the one race from twenty trip s to the races so he is definitely no star, but I do think he represents good each-way value in an open race. He has been consistent this prep without winning, this will be his seventh start this time in and he has only had the one bad run o paper. He was beaten a long way last time in a much harder BM64 at Mornington, he got back in the race and did hit the line ok although never looked likely. He had been racing over longer trips previously and getting back up to the mile looks a plus, from the good gate he should be able to settle a lot closer. He won’t want it a sit sprint affair as he is a little one-paced, he will keep grinding away. Very happy to bet around (2) Double The Magic, he has been doing most of his racing on the synthetic and although she will be up on the speed, she was very plain the last time she was on the turf, albeit in a harder race.
Muswellbrook Race 3 (Market)
We will be taking (5) Vermont on trust here as he hasn’t been to the official trials and I can’t find a jump-out for him anywhere. He has had one prep, four starts and was even tried out to 1400m at his third start before going to the paddock. He has good tactical speed, his latest start at Scone he led over 100m but was the first beaten in a much harder maiden than this. His last three riders have been Quayde Krogh, Lee Magorrian and Jay Ford, today the best provincial jock in the land in my opinion Aaron Bullock goes on, from the middle draw will have him up on the speed and giving them something to catch. The confidence levels will rise if there is money for him late.
Corowa Race 3 (Market)
At the time of writing there are no prices out for Corowa on Sunday, but I really like the look of (5) Qabeelah for the Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig team. The Shooting To Win gelding debuted in SA earlier in the year and was sent straight to the paddock after an ordinary effort. He resumed at Seymour last time and was backed as if there was no settling, from double figures into an SP of $4.80. He was away well but was held-up when the winner was off and gone in the straight, he was entitled to run on better than he did though. He was a little one-paced, the jockey was forced to change the hand with the whip and it just didn’t look like he was switched on. I like the change in hoops with McDougall going on, drawn wide should push forward and be on the pace for a long way, and hopefully not too short!
