Another strong week in MLB Betting Tips last Wednesday as we hit on 2/3 tips! We are looking to continue our strong run of form in the Major Leagues this Wednesday, the 14th of August as we take a look at some of the key matchups in the 15 game slate below.
MLB Betting Tips Wednesday 14th August
Chicago Cubs at Philadelphia Phillies (9.05am AEST)
Philadelphia is in the midst of a tight battle for a wildcard position in the National League, currently sitting just two games behind St. Louis. They have won just three of their last 10 games and have lost their last two in a row. They’ll have a tough matchup against the Cubs on Wednesday, who are 64-54 on the season so far and sit atop the NL Central division.
Jose Quintana will be on the mound for the Cubs on Wednesday and has a respectable 10-7 record with a 4.23 ERA. He was strong in his last start, striking out seven and allowing just one run on his way to a win. While he hasn’t been credited with a win in all of them, the Cubs are 7-0 in Quintana’s last 7 starts.
He’ll be up against Jason Vargas for the Phillies, who has been good against the Cubs in the past but has just a 6-6 record with a 4.09 ERA this season. Tough to look past the Cubs form at the moment. They have won 7 of their last 10 and have a +77 run differential on the season so far compared to just -33 for the Phillies.
Los Angeles Dodgers at Miami Marlins (9.10am AEST)
The Dodgers will look to continue a fantastic season to date when they travel to Miami on Wednesday to kick off a three game series. The Dodgers have a league best 79-41 record on the season so far and have won 8 of their last 10 games. They have a monster +192 run differential, which is the best in the league.
Three time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw will be on the mound on Wednesday and has had a spectacular season to date. He is in a tight battle with teammate Hyun-Jin Ryu for the National League Cy Young award this season, after going 11-2 through his first 20 starts with a ridiculous 2.77 ERA.
The Dodgers start as almost unbackable favourites here against a Miami team that has a National League worst 44-73 record. Tough to see the Marlins line-up doing any damage against Kershaw though. Back the Dodgers at the line here.
Oakland Athletics at San Francisco Giants (11.45am AEST)
The Athletics and Giants kick off a short two games Battle of the Bay series on Wednesday from 11.45am. The Athletics have a 67-51 record on the season so far and still sit a massive 10 games behind the Astros in the American League West Division.
Oakland will have Brett Anderson on the mound on Wednesday. The lefty has a 10-7 record with a 3.99 ERA on the season so far. He allowed just two runs in six innings in his last start, a win against the Cubs at Wrigley Field last week.
He’ll be up against Madison Bumgarner on Wednesday. The Giants lefty has been a little disappointing by his lofty standards this season, maintaining just a 7-7 record with a 3.74 ERA. He was fantastic in his last start, however, allowing just one hit over seven innings against the Phillies last week. Tough game to call here, but with Bumgarner on the mound we love the value of the Giants at home considering they will likely be underdogs or even money.
TIP: Giants to win - Price coming soon
