Another Wednesday in Major League Baseball, another fantastic 16 game slate to look forward to! We have a full preview and betting tips for some of the key games of the day below.
MLB Betting Tips Wednesday 7th August
Kansas City Royals at Boston Red Sox (9.10am AEST)
The Red Sox opened their three game home stand against Kansas City with a win on Tuesday to snap an eight game losing streak. After the terrible few weeks, Boston now sit third in the AL East a whopping 14.5 games behind the division leading Yankees and have won just two of their last 10 games.
Andrew Cashner will be on the mound for the Red Sox for his fifth start since moving to Boston from Baltimore in mid July. He has been pretty underwhelming for the Sox so far, allowing 4+ earned runs in three of his first four starts.
We still like the Sox to get the job done at home, however, as they come up against a Royals team that has lost seven games in a row and has the 6-10 Jakob Junis on the mound, who has a 5.03 ERA on the season.
Colorado Rockies at Houston Astros (10.10am AEST)
The Houston Astros currently have the best record in the American League at 73-40 and sit a whopping 8.5 games clear of their nearest opponent in the AL West. They have won eight of their last 10 games and will have new recruit Zack Greinke on the mound on Wednesday.
Greinke was acquired from the Diamondbacks in a blockbuster trade at the deadline and makes his Astros debut against the Rockies. He has a 10-4 record on the season with an impressive 2.90 ERA. He’ll be up against German Marquez of the Rockies, who has a 10-5 record and a 4.68 ERA on the season.
Tough to look past the Astros at home here. They have a dominant 41-15 record at Minute Maid Park, the second best home record in all of baseball and Greinke will be keen to impress in new colours.
San Diego Padres at Seattle Mariners (12.10pm AEST)
The Padres will travel to Seattle to kick off a two game series against the Mariners on Wednesday. There is a lot of unknown surrounding this game as the Mariners starting pitcher is currently unknown as Seattle are weighing up the idea of going with a six man starting rotation to include young prospects Justin Dunn and Justus Sheffield.
On the other side of the ball will be Dinelson Lamet. The right hander has made just five starts for the Padres this season since returning from Tommy Johns surgery in early July. He has a 0-2 record with a 5.09 ERA.
With both sides hovering at the bottom of their respective divisions at around the 50 win mark and there being so much unknown in this match it really seems like a game where anything could happen. We think the Padres as underdogs could be good value here.
TIP: Padres to win – Odds coming soon
