With the 2019 Cricket World Cup done and dusted, the focus switches onto the ongoing Women’s Ashes, which is currently in progress in England!
Australia and England face off in a point based series played over all three formats of the game, with the three ODI matches already resulted. The one-off Test match gets underway on Thursday, the 18th of July and we have a full preview and betting tips for the game below!
Women’s Ashes Test Match Betting Tips
The Women’s Ashes is a points based series with two points on offer for each of the three ODI matches and three T20 matches and five point up for grabs in the one-off Test match. Australia currently hold a commanding 6-0 lead on points, having won all three ODI matches, and could wrap up the series win with a win or retain the trophy with a draw in the upcoming Test match.
A loss for the Aussies, however, would see that lead quickly disappear, leaving a wide open series heading into the three T20 matches starting on the 27th of July.
Australia
The Aussies were fantastic in the three ODI games, winning the first and second matches at Grace Road chasing down totals with overs to spare and absolutely dominating the third game at St Lawrence Ground by a whopping 194 runs.
Ellyse Perry has been the catalyst of the Australian domination so far, picking up player of the match in game one for her 3/43 off seven overs but more so for her brilliant display in game three. Perry claimed the best figures ever by an Australian in an ODI match in the 194 run rout, picking up 7/22 off 10 overs.
It’s been hard hitting opener and wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy who has been getting the job done with the bat. Through the three matches she has scores of 66, 9 and 68 to combine for 143 runs at a healthy average of 47.66. Skipper Meg Lanning was also impressive in the third game, scoring 69 and is the only other Australian with over 100 runs in the opening three games.
England
England’s batting line-up has been a real concern through the opening three games of the series. They have surpassed 200 runs just once so far and just one player, Tammy Beaumont, has scored over 100 runs in the series. They have combined for just two scores above 50 in the opening three games.
Current skipper Heather Knight is the leader amongst active English players in runs scored in Test matches. Throughout her six match career, the captain has made 358 runs at an average of 32.54 and will need to step up if England are going to be competitive in this game. Wicket-keeper Sarah Taylor is the only other active English player with over 200 Test runs.
Since the year 2010, England have played in just six Test matches, with five of them coming against Australia. They have won just one of those six matches and lost three. Their most recent game came in 2017, when they drew with Australia after Aussie Ellyse Perry smashed the seventh double century in Women’s Test cricket.
Prediction
It’s tough to look past Australia here, especially with the trouble that Ellyse Perry has been giving the English batting line-up. The best player in the world right now is in arguably the best form of her career and is doing real damage with both bat and ball.
The Aussie skipper Meg Lanning also seems to be back to her best after a run of bad form and injuries hampered her progression over the last few years. Add a rampant Alyssa Healy to the mix, who is probably the most in form batswoman in the world at the moment and you have to think the $2.45 on offer for Australia is great value.
