We are back this week with more MLB betting tips after a well-deserved break for the 2019 All-Star game. Wednesday in the MLB offers a fantastic 15 game slate and we have a full preview and betting tips for some of the key matchups of the day below.
MLB Betting Tips Wednesday 17th July
Washington Nationals at Baltimore Orioles (9.05am AEST)
Washington currently sit in second place in the National League East division with a 49-43 record. They are seven games behind the division leading Braves, but have won eight of their last 10 games and have a very sweepable two games series coming up against Baltimore before heading to Atlanta for a four games series.
The Orioles have won just four of their last 10 games and currently sit last in the American League East division with a league worst 28-65 record. They have lost their last two games in a row and will have righty Asher Wojciechowski on the mound Wednesday, who is yet to record a win in the 2019 season.
The Washington starting pitcher is still unknown as they attempt to cover for the injured Max Scherzer. Regardless of their starter, we think they should be too strong against the Orioles on the road. Look for them to make inroads into the Braves division lead over the next week.
Arizona Diamondbacks at Texas Rangers (10.05am AEST)
Fantastic inter conference matchup between the Diamondbacks and Rangers on Wednesday as both teams look to climb the standings in their respective divisions. The Diamondbacks currently sit 14 games behind the division leading Dodgers, but are well and truly in the wild card race in the National League, just 1.5 games behind the current wildcard team.
The Rangers are in a very similar position, they have a 50-44 record and while they sit a full six games behind the Astros in the AL West division, they are just 3 games outside of the Wildcard race. The Rangers will have right hander Lance Lynn on the mound Wednesday, who has been dominant in 2019 so far with a 12-4 record and a 3.69 ERA through 19 starts.
Alex Young will be on the mound for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, making just his third MLB start and fourth appearance overall. He has a 2-0 record and an impressive 0.68 ERA through the small sample size of starts. The lefty has allowed just one run in 11 innings when starting. Arizona represent great value with Young on the mound Wednesday.
New York Mets at Minnesota Twins (10.10am AEST)
The Mets started with a three games series in Miami after the all-star break and after losing the first game, they bounced back to win the next two on Sunday and Monday. They’ll be looking for their third straight win on Wednesday as they kick off a two games series with the Minnesota Twins. Steven Matz will return to the starting rotation to replace Zack Wheeler on Wednesday after making two relief appearances before the all-star break. He has a 5-6 record with a 4.89 ERA in 2019.
He’ll be facing off against right hander Michael Pineda for the Twins, who is coming off a fantastic stretch of games before the all-star break. He allowed just one run in each of four of his last five games before the all-star break and has a 2019 record of 6-4 with a 4.56 ERA.
Tough game to call here between an in form team in the Mets and an in form pitcher in Pineda. Minnesota’s batting has been a little troubling lately, winning just five of their last 10 games. They’ll have the home field advantage here but we actually like the Mets on the back of a days break and a few strong performances.
TIP: Mets to win – Odds coming soon
