Monster 15 game slate in Major League baseball this Wednesday, the 29th of May plus the conclusion of a rain suspended game from Tuesday! We hit on two out of three bets in the MLB last week and will be hunting more winners as we break down the key games of the day this Wednesday.
MLB Betting Tips Wednesday 29th May
San Diego Padres at New York Yankees (8.25am AEST)
The Yankees have won eight of their last 10 games and currently sit a full two games clear on top of the American League East division. They will be at home for the second game of a three game series against the Padres after notching up a 5-2 win on Tuesday.
Masahiro Tanaka will be on the mound for the Yankees Wednesday. The Japanese right hander has been serviceable throughout the regular season so far, racking up a 3-3 record through 11 starts and maintaining a 2.94 ERA. He has allowed just two earned runs in his last three starts spaning 19 innings.
Tanaka will be up against Eric Lauer, who is coming off one of his best starts of the season against the Diamondbacks last week. Lauer threw seven innings for just one run in the win and maintains a 4.73 ERA through the season so far. The Yankees look to strong at home here, their offence has been firing over the last 10 games and should defend home field behind Tanaka.
Cleveland Indians at Boston Red Sox (9.10am AEST)
The Red Sox have been slowly climbing up the AL East ranks and now sit 6.5 games behind the New York Yankees in third place. They’ll be faceing the Cleveland Indians in the second game of a three game home series on Wednesday and they’ll have star lefty David Price on the mound.
Price has a 2-2 record through the opening parts of the season and is maintaining a 3.24 ERA. He is just three days removed from his last start, which ended after 15 pitches due to illness. Price has been unbelievable at Fenway Park throughout his time at the Red Sox, racking up a 27-8 record.
The Indians will have 34-year old Zach Plesac on the mound, who will be making his Major League debut after just nine starts in the minor leagues this season. He was absolutely lights out in the minors, posting a 1.41 ERA with 56 strikeouts in 57 innings, however, he’ll be going up against one of the best offences in baseball. Back the Sox at home.
Chicago Cubs at Houston Astros (10.10am AEST)
The game of the day sees two division leaders going at it in an inter-conference clash as the Houston Astros host the Chicago Cubs. The Astros have one of the best records in all of baseball at 36-19, however, they have won just six of their last 10 games after a tough series against Boston over the weekend.
Similarly, the Cubs have a NL Central best 30-22 record but have been on the slide recently, winning just four of their last 10 games and losing their last two in a row to the Reds and the Astros. Jon Lester will be on the mound Wednesday and has been down on form over his last two starts, allowing 12 runs in just over eight innings.
The Astros will have Corbin Martin on the mound, making just his fourth start in the MLB. He has just a 1-1 record with a 4.97 ERA. Lester was fantastic through the early parts of the season and will look to bounce back here. We like the Cubs to cause an upset on the road against a rookie pitcher.
