Our fantasy team of the week would have been looking good for some prizemoney if not for the exclusion of Sam Gray when the teams were announced on Thursday night. Hopefully for most of you it was a straight swap and you took the 750 points on offer from the rest of our team. We’ll look to back it up with another strong performance this weekend as we present our Draftstars team of the week for Round 17 of the AFL.
Draftstars have another $50k guaranteed up for grabs this Saturday but there are also some great AFL tournaments at PlayON and Moneyball that you can get stuck into!
Defenders: Michael Hibberd, Christian Salem
Melbourne have a good matchup this weekend against the Dogs, who allow the sixth most points per game in the league and the second most over the past five rounds. Hibberd and Salem are both consistently good scorers are both consistently decent scorers who average in the 70s but are both capable of big games. They both have high scores of over 105 this season and should go well at the MCG against the Dogs.
Midfielders: Dyson Heppel, David Myers, Christian Petracca, Andrew McGrath
Gold Coast leak more points than any team in the league at the moment so we have decided to opt for three Bombers players in the midfield this week. The Suns have allowed the most points per game on average this year at 1678 and over the last five games that number has jumped to 1736. They have conceded 4.8 100+ scores per game over the last five games and allow midfielders a whopping average of 92 points per game this season, which is the highest tally in the league.
Petracca has a good matchup against the Dogs, who’s 92 points allowed for midfielders over the last five games is the only number that comes close to the Suns.
Forwards: Jake Barrett, Teia Miles
Going cheap in the forward line this week to leave us enough cash for the big ruck play below. Miles came back into the Hawthorn side last weekend after some time on the sidelines and scored 64. If he can climb to over 70 this week it will be a good output.
Jake Barrett has played just two games for the Lions this year, facing off against Fremantle and Carlton in the last two rounds. He was fantastic against Carlton last weekend, scoring 86 points on 19 touches and should get more time in the midfield this weekend.
Ruck: Max Gawn
There is only one ruck option this Saturday in my opinion and that is the premier ruckman in the competition, Max Gawn. Gawn is playing against the Bulldogs this weekend, who allow more points at the ruck position than any other team. They have allowed a whopping 121 points per game to #1 rucks in their last five games and Gawn scored a massive 141 against the Dogs just five rounds ago.
