Canterbury Park Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 1st 2025
Race 5: Tab BM64 – 5:20pm (AEDT)
(1) Toes In The Water $13.00/$3.20: Roughie of the field. She was terrific last start over 1400m only finishing a length behind POCKETING who she meets again here, but gets a nice weight swing with the 3kg claim. Fitter again third up and must be respected. Blow out hope.
(2) Pocketing $3.40: 3YO who has a nice record of 2 wins and 2 seconds from 4 career starts and won nicely over 1400m last start. Hard fit now and looks suited out in distance. Consider.
(6) Oh Diamond Lil $3.50: 4YO Mare who broke her maiden in style last start at Kembla Grange winning by almost 5L and then another 2L between 2nd & 3rd. She showed a great burst of speed down the straight and her late splits were slick. The second-place getter from that race has since gone out and won comfortably at Randwick, form franked. Main danger.

Race 7: Kia Canterbury Sprint - 1200m- 6:30pm (AEDT)
(2) Eagle Nest $12.00/$3.10: 5YO Mare who has been consistent all prep and won nicely two back against similar company. Yet to score at 1200m, but will be fitter again and should be around the mark. One for the exotics.
(4) Iowna Merc $7.50/$2.20: Terrific win last start when he timed his run to perfection to score on the line. Looks suited out to 1200m off that run and remains evenly matched against the favourite with no weight swings. Watch for him late.
(10) Time To Boogie $3.00: 5YO Gelding who was terrific in defeat last start being nutted on the line by Iowna Merc. He gets a nice alley today and maps to lead. If he can dictate out in front again he will be hard to catch second up. Strips fitter and looks the one to beat.

Race 8: Palace Pier First Yearlings BM64 – 7:00pm (AEDT)
(1) Opal Fields $9:00/$2.50: 4YO Mare who has had a nice little freshen up after winning over this trip/grade at Hawksbury in November. Draws well and goes well fresh. Nash to steer boosts confidence and she looks a nice value bet.
(10) Idle Flyer $9.00/$2.50: 3YO Filly who is first up and has won a trial leading into this. Id expect her to be improving now for this second prep and she looks a nice each way play.
(11) Unleeshing $2.30: 3YO Filly who has been freshened. She won first up in style and has since finished 2nd on her other two runs. Most recently finished behind Private Harry in BM72 grade which is a handy form line. Drops in grade and is ready to win again. Hard to beat.
