Three Formula 1 previews so far in 2018 and three winning tips to our name already as we predicted Sebastian Vettel to win both the Australian and Bahrain GP’s at prices of over $4 followed by a Lewis Hamilton tip in the Spanish Grand Prix at the modest price of $1.62! We’ll look to continue our hot motor racing form this weekend as the tour heads to France for the coveted Monaco GP!
One of the marquee events of the F1 calendar year, the Monaco GP is widely popular not because of the quality of race that it offers, but because of the glitz and glamour of the event! The famous street course itself offers little chance of overtaking and an extremely high chance of crashes, but with the picturesque Port Hercule in the backdrop, it’s hard not to be a fan of the annual Monaco event.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was the winner of last season’s Monaco GP after narrowly defeating teammate Kimi Raikkonen, who claimed the pole position in qualifying rounds. Australian Daniel Ricciardo finished third in his home town of Monaco in what would be the second race of a five streak of podium finishes including a win a few weeks later in Azerbaijan.
Interestingly, the fastest lap in last year’s Monaco GP was recorded by the up and coming Sergio Perez of Force India-Mercedes. It was also the fastest lap ever recorded at the Circuit de Monaco.Perez started the 2018 season in some horror form, finishing 11th, 16th and 12th in the first three races. Since then, however, he has a 3rd place finish to his name in the Azerbaijan GP followed by a 9th place finish in Spain. He obviously knows the track extremely well and considering there is limited ability to pass on the tight street track, if he can put in a good showing in the qualifiers and claim a high spot on the podium, he could be in for a strong performance.

It’s not really an issue of picking a winner from the field in the Formula 1 in this day and age, it’s really only about picking who you think will claim top spot out of the juggernaut duo of Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. The two have combined to win four of the five races throughout the year so far, with Aussie Daniel Ricciardo taking out the Shanghai GP.
Lewis Hamilton comes into the race in better form, having won the last two evens of the season. As expected, he was unstoppable in arguably his favourite race of the year, the Spanish GP, a few weeks ago. He took pole position and never looked back, beating out his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas. However, the Ferraris were much quicker around the track last year, and promise to be dangerous again on the tight street track.
Hamilton has never been fantastic in the Monaco GP by his lofty standards recording five finishes of fifth or worse in his 11 races. Vettel on the other hand, apart from retirements, has only finished outside the top four on one occasion in Monaco, and already has two wins and three further podiums in eight completed Monaco GP’s.
