Big day in the MLB this Tuesday, the 26th of September with 12 games on the slate. We take a look at the key matchups and provide our betting tips for each below.
Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox (9.10am AEST)
They wrapped up a playoffs spot last week, but the Red Sox will be hunting the finishing touches on a stellar regular season with a win over the Blue Jays at Fenway on Tuesday. Drew Pomeranz will be on the mound for the Sox in an attempt to improve on his already great season to date. The lefty is 16-5 on the season so far and has a 3.15 ERA to make him a top contender for the AL Cy Young.
He’ll be going against Brett Anderson who is coming off one of his poorer starts of the season last week against the Royals. He has just a 3-4 record on the season and a whopping 7.15 ERA. Seven of the Red Sox day-to-day line up have an average better than .333 against Anderson so they should be able to get off to a good start here. We like them to win this one comfortably.

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers (12.10pm AEST)
Mid-season recruit Yu Darvish will be on the mound for the Dodgers Tuesday and will look to improve on a to ugh September in his last start. He is currently 1-2 with a 4.58 ERA this month but has a favourable matchup against the Padres’ Travis Wood this week. It will be the last start of the regular season for Darvish, who will be hoping he can find some form before the playoffs start next week.
The Padres are out of the running for the MLB playoffs this season and don’t have much left to play for in the remaining week of games. They are worst in the major leagues in both hits and runs throughout the season and should struggle against the class of Darvish here.
TIP: Dodgers -1.5 - $1.76 at Ladbrokes
Chicago Cubs at St Louis Cardinals (10.15am AEST)
St Louis have just a slim chance of making it to the MLB post season but will be fighting hard to keep that hope alive when they host the Cubs on Tuesday morning. Rookie sensation Luke Weaver will be on the mound for the Cards and will be looking to improve on a ridiculous start to his major league career. The rookie has won his last seven decisions and posted an amazing 1.49 ERA through those games since coming into the side back in July.
He’ll have a tough matchup Tuesday against Cub Jon Lester, who although struggled in his last outing, is one of the premier pitchers in the Majors. The St Louis batters have been able to get a hold of Lester over his career. With five bats in the line up boasting a +.300 record against him. Weaver is an unknown quantity to the Cubs and should be tough to handle early, we like the home side here.
TIP: St Louis Cardinals – $1.79 at Sportsbet
