Rosehill Gardens hosts a nine-race card in Sydney this weekend, featuring the Ming Dynasty and the San Domenico Stakes. The track is currently rated a Good 3 which could play into the hands of front runners as we've seen in recent weeks.
We have betting tips and comments for every race below.
Rosehill Racing Tips for Saturday, August 26th
Race 1
I will keep this nice and short - I think LIFESAVER is a moral here. He won his only two starts in his debut preparation, and returned first up in the Highway Handicap when beaten very narrowly by Another Sin, who looks pretty smart and was the subject of an enormous plunge. Lifesaver drops from 59kg to 56.5kg here, draws perfectly in barrier 5, and if the track is favouring those up on speed, he will be very hard to beat. MOSSMAN GEORGE looks the logical danger. Happy to take on NIC'S VENDETTA back to 1100m, same can be said about RED KNOT who needs a mile. The value could be LEVEE BANK third up on a firm track with 51kg.
TIP: Lifesaver (Best Bet)
Race 2
Really keen on AWOKE here. She was my best of the day on Wednesday before being scratched to run in this race instead. She won first up before bumping into a smart one in Philosophy last start. Has to carry 61.5kg here but with the compressed weights she isn't weighted badly. Bomwan rides, deserves favouritism, hard to beat and happy with $2.80. I think the biggest danger is actually PRADA MISS. She was beaten 0.3L by ELOUERA last start but gets a 1.5kg weight swing in her favour today. $6.50 is a reasonable price for her and she goes in as second pick. CHATUCHAK comes off a win at Kembla and prior to that was competitive behind Agent D'Or and Spending To Win. She carries a big weight too but should be thereabouts. MARIQUITA and ELOUERA next best. Awoke on top from Prada Miss.
TIP: Awoke
Race 3
TANGO RAIN is clearly the one to beat here. Won his first two starts in his debut prep before running 2nd to Star Turn in the San Domenico Stakes this time last year. Failed as favourite after that but pulled up with issues and had a long spell. Resumed over 1000m at Randwick three weeks ago when he was caught three-wide the trip from a wide gate and still managed to run a close-up 3rd, beaten 0.8L. Drops in grade and therefore goes up in weight here, but importantly draws a really good barrier in 6. Looks the class runner in the field and should be able to atone for the first up run. It's a competitive race but his best form would win this and $3.50 is a good enough price for me. IMPROVEMENT is the one they're going to have to run down, and if the track is playing into the hands of front runners then her claims are even better. She ran 2nd on debut before winning four on the bounce, and I think the claim she gets here is important in giving her a chance against Tango Rain. $5.50 is about her right price. SKYLIGHT GLOW and PUMPKIN PIE both being first up over 1100m concerns me and happy to risk both of them here. MARSUPIAL an interesting runner at the bottom of the weight. Trialled nicely coming into this and carries 8kg less than those at the top of the weights.
TIP: Tango Rain
Race 4
Chris Waller holds all the cards here and ALWARD looks very, very hard to beat here. Comes up from Melbourne after a dominant three-length win over this distance last start, and Bowman takes the ride on him. Draws a perfect barrier to sit in midfield and looks set for better races throughout the Spring. Very surprised if he doesn't win this. VAUCLUSE BAY went around at $1.80 last start when chasing his third straight win but was absolutely awful. Pulled up with a heart issue and has since trialled. Carries a touch less weight here and if he were to return to the form he was showing leading into last start he'd be a big chance here. MEET AND GREET has won two on the bounce over 1600m in Brisbane and now steps up to 2000m. This is a steeper test but beyond the first few in the market there's not much depth so he's a place chance. MISS DUBOIS and CHATERLARD next best. Very keen on the favourite.
TIP: Alward
Race 5
Expect BROADSIDE to go forward and lead here from barrier 10 and if the track is favouring leaders then he'll be very tough to beat, but at the $3 I'm keen to take him on. CLASSIC UNIFORM strikes a really winnable race here and the form behind Arbeitsam looks very good. He led everywhere bar the post two starts ago when run down by Shiraz, and last start Arbeitsam was just far too good. He drops 3kg from that last start run, senior rider goes on board and draws exceptionally well. He can sit right up on the pace again and at $5 I think he's a great bet. KING VIV at the bottom of the weights also rates well. Ran 2nd in Doomben two starts ago before winning at this track over 2000m last start. Drops in weight and draws the inside gate so can go well here. HIPPARCHUS isn't the worst hope. He needs to improve but he has a good third up record and hasn't had a whole lot of luck in his first two starts down in Melbourne. LOYALTY MAN gets the blinkers back on and can bounce back. Taking the $5/$1.83 on offer for Classic Uniform.
TIP: Classic Uniform
Race 6
Very, very keen on ASSIMILATE and can't believe the price at $6.50. We are also getting $2.25 for the place and I'll be having a significant each way bet here. This horse is undefeated and beat home Dracarys last start, who then went on to win in Group 3 company last week. Hugh Bowman takes the ride for the Snowdens, he's a huge chance. Just hope it isn't hard to make ground. ADDICTIVE NATURE has had a massive spruik on him since his first trial, and he was pestered the entire race last start so with a softer run he can bounce back here. MAHALANGUR was backed as if unbeatable on debut at Newcastle and sailed home to win in impressive fashion. Huge step up in class here but looks like he will measure up in this grade eventually. RUNAWAY next best. Looks an even field, but very keen on Assimilate each way.
TIP: Assimilate EW (Best Value)
Race 7
Chalk up another for the Snowdens here because Pariah is one of the horses to follow this Spring. Beat Menari on debut before running 2nd to both Property and Catchy, and then failed on the heavy track in the Slipper. Resumes here after two good trials (the latest of which he ran 2nd to a handy one called Winx), he looks a very strong chance of kicking off his campaign with a win. Follow him. The interesting runner is JORDA who is first up from a 329 day spell after winning on debut. He was set for the Slipper before having problems, so he's clearly got the ability. Interested to see how he returns here. MADEENATY was only run down late first up but the horse that beat her looks very smart. She brings race fitness here and unlike some others in this race who are looking for further, this trip is her best distance. With just 54kg I expect her to run a cracker. CONDOR HEROES can't be ruled out, while ANOTHER SIN comes here after a debut win in a Highway Handicap so it will be interesting to see how he measures up.
TIP: Pariah
Race 8
Pretty keen on a few here. THE PHARAOH ran 2nd to Arbeitsam two starts ago before winning last start over 1350m. Draws sticky here up to the 1500m and he won't lead today with SPECIAL MISSILE in the race. I'm going to take him on at $3.60. SPECIAL MISSILE has won four in a row and this is tougher but the horse is absolutely flying. The big negative today is the 3kg apprentice taking over from Brenton Avdulla, but he's undefeated at the distance and won with 59kg over this track and distance last start. We're getting a better price today but he can produce the same result. $4.20 is acceptable. HOGMANAY at $7 is one I'll be backing too. His first up run was terrific behind The Pharaoh and he gets a 3kg weight swing for a 1.3L defeat. He's got a terrific record at the track. My biggest concern is Lee Magorrian on board, but from barrier 1 he will do well to get it wrong. The clear value in the race is ROCK MYLADY who never saw an inch of daylight in the straight second up at Kembla. He is ready to win now and the wide barrier will ensure he gets a clear crack at them. MAPMAKER another one to include at double figure odds.
TIP: Special Missile / Hogmanay EW
Race 9
Hard to go against BONNY O'REILLY here despite carrying 59.5kg first up. She's won two from three first up, is undefeated at the track and undefeated at the distance. Draws barrier 1 so she gets every chance here at $3.60. I think the value could be NO DOUBT who ran a cracker first up over 1100m. Steps up to 1200m now which is a distance he's won twice at. Has a good second up record and can sit a touch closer from the good gate. I'll have something on at $11. SELITA will lead and be hard to run down, SIR BACCHUS has a great record at the track and distance but we haven't seen his best in a while, and I'll be taking on SIR PLUSH and MOGADOR. SUPREME EFFORT isn't the worst, and BE LIKE DAD is worth including at 100/1.
TIP: Bonny O'Reilly / No Doubt EW
