Very disappointing 0-3 day for us on Tuesday to end a pretty respectable streak of MLB betting tips. We’ll look to bounce back today as we preview some of the key games on the slate for this Thursday, the 24th of August.
Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels (12pm AEST ESPN)
Bit of a pitching mismatch to start proceedings today as we have the 7-9 Andrew Cashner facing off against Andrew Heaney. While Cashner hasn’t exactly been lights out this season, Heaney has appeared in just one game since returning from Tommy John surgery, which is always met with a lot of precaution.
Heaney gave up seven runs over five innings in the appearance including four home runs so its safe to say that an adjustment period is needed. Both teams are in a tight battle for the wild card spots in the American League and a whopping six bats in the Rangers lineup have a better than .400 average against Heaney. We like the Rangers in this one.
TIP: Texas Rangers to win - $2.30 at Sportsbet
Boston Red Sox at Cleveland Indians (9.10am AEST)
Contender for the AL Cy Young award Drew Pomeranz will be looking to strengthen his case Thursday as he faces the Indians at Progressive Field from 9.10am. The Red Sox have been on an absolute tear lately, winning 14 of their last 18 games. The series with the Indians is tied at 1-1 and with Pomeranz on the mound it’ll be a great chance to break the deadlock in their favour.
Indians ace Corey Kluber will be on the mound for Cleveland. He has a great 12-3 record on the year and boasts a 2.67 ERA. Should be a great pitching matchup against two Cy Young candidates so we are happy to take the under on total runs here.
TIP: Total runs under 7.5 - $1.90 at Sportsbet
Minnesota Twins at Chicago White Sox (10.10am AEST)
While James Shields hasn’t been terrible so far, this season, he only has six decisions from his 14 starts simply because the White Sox can’t give him the run support he needs or hold a lead when he goes out. He’ll be up against Twins ace Ervin Santana Thursday, who boasts a 13-7 record with a 3.33 ERA.
Some decent value for the Twins here as they are away from home and the team batting first always has the slight advantage to win by more than one run. With Santana on the mound and the 1.5 line at $2 for the Twins, we like them to cover here.
TIP: Minnesota -1.5 - $2 at Sportsbet
