While all the attention will be on the four Group 1 races in Melbourne on Caulfield Guineas Day, Randwick still hosts a nine-race card this Saturday with the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes as the feature event.
The track is currently rated a Good 3 with the rail out 6m, and the forecast suggests there may be a chance of a small shower, but probably not enough to cause a downgrade.
We have betting tips for all 9 races, including comments on every runner in the Group 1.
Race 1 - Showtime
Race 2 - Invincibella
Race 3 - Signposted
Race 4 - Mysticism
Race 5 - My Giuiliano
Race 6 - God's In Him
Race 7 - Yankee Rose (full preview below)
Race 8 - Lady Le Fay
Race 9 - Denpurr
Race 7 - Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes 2000m - Group 1
PRIZED ICON: Bounced back last start when he should have won the Gloaming Stakes but was badly held up. Drawn to get a good run and no problem stepping up to 2000m. Good chance.
VELADERO: Three wins on the trot now after winning the Gloaming last start. Can lead again if he wants but slight query up to 2000m.
SWEAR: Another one that found trouble in the straight in the Gloaming. Draws wide here and will have to go back again. Place chance.
HIGH MIST: Really fancied his chances in the Gloaming but the saddle slipped and made it difficult for the jockey. Should appreciate the step up to 2000m and can bounce back.
HONEYWINE: Finished 2nd in the Gloaming behind Veladero last start. Had every chance so the blinkers go on for the first time here. Drawn well and can run well.
RETALIATION: Finished a close up 4th in the Gloaming after losing 3rd on protest. Looks the second choice for Godolphin here and the draw makes it tough for him.
TUMULTUOUS: Finished close up 5th in the Gloaming. Would need to improve to overturn the results but from the good barrier he will get a good run.
READY FIRE AIM: Looks one of the likely leaders in the race but he's failing in maiden grade at the moment so this is too hard for him.
HAND IT IN: Maiden winner on a heavy track three starts back but has failed since. Needs to improve sharply.
KHARTOUM: The step up to 2000m suits him but would prefer to see him in something easier than this.
YANKEE ROSE: Bounced back to somewhere near her best last start when coming from last in a small field to finish 2nd in the Flight Stakes. If she produces her best form here she should be winning and I think she will handle the 2000m. Will need a good ride from barrier 8.
Summary
I think Yankee Rose is the best horse in the race and with all things being equal she should win a race like this.
If she is below her best or encounters problems then Prized Icon may be the one to win. Chances also to Veladero, High Mist, Honeywine and Swear.
1st YANKEE ROSE
2nd PRIZED ICON
3rd HIGH MIST
4th HONEYWINE
Best Bet: Race 1 Showtime
Very expensive colt who trialled very well behind the subsequent winner of the Breeder's Plate. Expect him to start short but he could be very good,
Best Value Bet: Race 6 God's In Him
First up where he has only ever missed a place once. Ran 2nd in Group 2 company last prep and strong jockey booking of Tommy Berry. If he is ready to go he will be a decent bet at $6.50.
