Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays ( Monday 3:07am )
The Orioles will come into Sunday’s game trying to avoid a series sweep and they also can’t afford to fall another game behind in the AL East standings.
The Blue Jays took a commanding lead on Saturday thanks to a seven run rampage in the fifth innings.
The Orioles had nothing in the tank in game two at the Rogers Centre, when the lefty pitcher J.A. Happ only allowed three hits and just one run over seven strong innings. During the fifth the Jays sent eleven batters to the plate, with three doubles, four walks and a solo homer. Devon Travis went 2 for 4 with a home run. Team mates Encarnacion, Martin and Pillar shortly followed with RBI doubles. The O’s only had one shining light on Saturday with Pedro Alvarez hitting a homer off Happ’s curve ball, after that Happ certainly shut the door.
Baltimore will start with Chris Tillman, in Sunday’s game, who has a 14-3 record and a 3.47 ERA. In the past Tillman has struggled at Rogers Centre. He has posted a 7.94 ERA there in 11 starts, also allowing 19 home runs. This is a big test for Tillman who will try and salvage a win after the O’s have lost the last 5. The Blue Jay’s right hander, Aaron Sanchez will take the mound with a 11-1 record and an impressive 2.72 ERA. With Sanchez behind the mound the Jays are 12-4, he is also 3-2 with a 5.34 ERA in 10 career games with five starts against Baltimore.
This is shaping up to be a pretty close game, with both teams having such a strong defence. In saying that, I think the Jays will sweep the O’s with their offensive hitters and also since the O’s have been struggling to win when on the road.
