2024 PDC Players Championship Finals Betting Preview

The format of this tournament sees the 64 players qualify via the PDC Order of Merit through the Players Championships held throughout the year, with the rankings determined by performance across the respective Championships. It brings together the world’s best and in form players, making it a great contest and a must watch event. It starts with a best of 11 legs through to the third round, then it goes to best of 19 legs. Then, in the Semi Finals and Final, it goes to best of 21.

The field is stacked with quality, headlined by the two best players in the world, Luke Humphries and Luke Littler, with Littler, the teenage sensation, recent winner of the Grand Slam Of Darts, and Luke Humphries, the world #1 who has been out of sorts at stages this year when it comes to big wins but is consistent.

The rejuvenation of Gary Anderson has been great to watch in 2024. There was a period of time where he looked completely cast as a player but 2024 has seen him play somewhere close to his best, highlighted by his recent deeds at the Grand Slam Of Darts, where he pushed Littler to a last leg shoot out, which he lost, but the game was an absolute epic. His scoring power is so dangerous so he has to be respected.

Suggested Bets

Joe Cullen vs Dave Chisnall (Round 1)

Dave Chisnall has been one of the more consistent players across the Players Championships this year but he was quite poor at the Grand Slam Of Darts and his recent efforts have been suspect. That's why I think Joe Cullen can cause an upset. His issue is his double hitting. It can be very ordinary but if he can get that on point, then he is a great chance of winning, and he loves this shorter format.

Wesley Plaisier vs Mensur Suljovic (Round 1)

The performance of Wesley Plaisier in recent times has been incredible. He has done most of his darts this year on the Modus Series but you only have to go back to July, he recorded an incredible 111 average in winning a night there, so he has the capability and can score heavily. I think he has the veteran Suljovic covered.

Overall Winners

The starting point is the favourite, Luke Littler. The teenage sensation has lit up 2024 and I've said it numerous times. He has the potential to put Darts on the world stage like Michael Jordan did for Basketball in the sense that he pushes through to mainstream and brings in a whole new audience. His Grand Slam win was incredible. He had to survive a couple of last leg shootouts but then made an absolute mess of Martin Lukeman in the Final, smashing in 180's for fun. The shorter format early in the tournament is a slight query but if he gets through, he's the one to beat, clearly.

If there is one at a price to be entertained, I reckon it is the young Dutchman Wessel Nijman. His Grand Slam performance was incredible. He didn't make it past the Group Stage, but he recorded a record average yet didn't win a game and didn't progress. He is a young player, like Littler, and I think he will win a major tournament at some stage in his career. I think he's clear value.

Luke Humphries hasn't quite dominated 2024 like he did 2023 but he did win this tournament last year in an epic over Michael Van Gerwen. He didn't make it past the Group Stage of the Grand Slam Of Darts and overall, his last couple of months have been poor for his lofty standards and while he hasn't reached the level of Michael Smith when it comes to winning a World Championship then a fall from grace, he's not the player he was last year. But, there are glimpses and enough to say don't dismiss him.

He continually gets underestimated but I do think 2018 World Champion Rob Cross is playing some really good Darts. He was solid without being spectacular in the Grand Slam Of Darts, losing out in the knockout stage with some poor visits against Martin Lukeman. He is a player that when he is on, can score heavily, and his double hitting can be the best of any player in the world.

Also Consider: Wessel Nijman ($23), Luke Humphries ($3.90), Rob Cross ($31)
