So, it all comes down to this. Super Bowl LVIII will see the San Francisco 49ers trying to take their revenge against the Kansas City Chiefs, after going down 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV. It should be a cracking contest, and what better way to watch and follow along than with a Draftstars team or two.
Draftstars has a $25,000 contest, with a $2,480 first prize. There are plenty of other contests for everyone to get involved. A slight change to the format this week with just the two teams involved, meaning you need to pick a captain and five FLEX options. Here, we will give you some of our best picks for captain (1.5x), as well as players to look at for your five FLEX slots.
NFL 2023-24 Daily Fantasy Tips: Super Bowl LVIII
Captains
Christian McCaffrey - $35,580
CMC has by far the biggest upside of any player in this game, and as such is the most expensive player (by far). When selecting a captain, it’s hard to make a case for the most expensive player, but with CMC it’s a little easier. McCaffrey averages 7.4 points per game more than the second highest scorer in this slate, and there’s a great chance that the 49ers lean heavily on McCaffrey in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs’ run defence is their weakness on the defensive side of the ball, and it just so happens to be the strength of the 49ers. If the 49ers get out to an early lead, McCaffrey will surely be the highest scorer if he can get into the endzone. However, if you take CMC as your captain, over 47% of your budget is gone in one click of the button.
Isiah Pacheco - $20,745
The 49ers have been gashed on the ground in the playoffs, with Aaron Jones rushing for over 100 yards, and the Lions’ two-headed monster in the backfield combining for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Like McCaffrey, if the Chiefs can get out to an early lead in this one, I expect them to lean heavily on Pacheco. In fact, even if the Chiefs get down early, I still expect them to feed Pacheco, given the 49ers struggles against the run. Pacheco has been super consistent of late and manages to have a really solid floor for the price, at almost $15k cheaper than McCaffrey.
Deebo Samuel - $18,225
Deebo has the highest upside in the Super Bowl, besides McCaffrey in my opinion, and your captaincy selection has to be based on upside. Deebo will be involved through the air, and on the ground, and if he can get involved early in this one, look out. Whilst he has been struggling for a few weeks now, that’s more down to him struggling with injuries than anything else. I have no doubt that Head Coach Kyle Shanahan will have some great plays drawn up for Deebo in this one. We need the Samuel from a couple of months ago to justify this selection, where he managed nine touchdowns in six games. My favourite captain choice for Super Bowl LVIII.
FLEX Options
Patrick Mahomes - $17,870
The biggest game of the year is on deck again for the biggest player in the game, as Patrick Mahomes aims to win his third Super Bowl, and third Super Bowl MVP. Whilst Mahomes hasn’t quite had the highs this season in DFS, if ever there was a game to put your faith in the Chiefs quarterback, it’s the Super Bowl. Mahomes is a near perfect FLEX candidate, given his tremendous floor. You can almost set your watch to a Mahomes score between 15 and 25, with only five scores outside these parameters all season long. If you can afford him, get him in.
Rashee Rice - $14,540
Rice has turned himself into a legitimate WR1 in his first season in the NFL. Whilst many will say he has the huge advantage of having one of the greatest to ever do it throw him the ball, I don’t think anyone anticipated just how far Rice would have come in his rookie campaign. You can see a distinct change from Rice’s outputs early in the season, to what they have been in the second half of his rookie campaign, with his DFS average sitting at 18.7 over his last 9 games. Added to this, his highest score in that period was 30, whilst having two other scores of 24+, showing he has elite upside. Rice should once again gobble up targets, particularly if the 49ers spend a lot of their time trying to defend Kelce over the middle.
George Kittle - $11,540
Kittle is about as ‘boom or bust’ as you can get in DFS, with eight scores between 15 and 28, and eight scores of eight or under. Because of this, he is the lowest price of the ‘elite’ options, with a severe drop off in prices after Kittle, with the next most expensive player being Valdes-Scantling, at just $4,820. Kittle isn’t a player I will be selecting in all my squads, but he is definitely someone with the type of upside that, if he is involved, will get you close to the money. The Chiefs are slightly above league average at defending tight ends, meaning Kittle should have a chance at making some plays here.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling - $4,820
There’s no denying it. MVS has not lived up to his price tag, with just 1000 yards and three touchdowns in his two seasons with the Chiefs. He’s never been a volume receiver and is more the ‘Big Play’ type of receiver who can get vertical for the big play. He has shown glimpses of this in his time at the Chiefs, being targeted deep more than any other Chiefs’ receiver, however he has had a serious case of the dropsies this season. However, over the last two weeks in the playoffs, MVS has shown up, making four catches for 100 yards in two games. If he can somehow snatch a touchdown in this one, he is well underpriced here.
Kadarius Toney - $1,460
This is a pure dart throw here at Kadarius Toney, hoping the Chiefs have something drawn up for Toney in the redzone. Toney is far more likely to score you zero points than scoring you a touchdown, but at some point in these contests you need to find a bottom dollar player to balance out your squad. Andy Reid has shown in the past that he can throw up some interesting wrinkles in the big games, and if you see Toney run out onto the field when the Chiefs are down on the goal line, expect him to get the ball in his hands. At just $1,460, you can easily afford a bust here, but if Toney can get you that score, he quickly becomes one of the best bangs for your buck in the Super Bowl DFS contest.
