India vs England
Lucknow, Sunday 29th October, 7.30pm (AEDT)
India
India are absolutely rolling so far in the ICC Cricket World Cup. They are a perfect 5-0 through their opening five games and have all but locked up a berth in the semi-finals. They have great depth and interchangeability within their squad, allowing them to adapt to the conditions of the weather as well as the pitch on any given night.
They squared off against New Zealand in their last clash, bowling the Black Caps out for just 273 after winning the toss and electing to field. Seamer Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers in his first game for the tournament, taking 5/54 off 10 overs.
In reply, Virat Kohli continued his stellar form, scoring 95 off 104 balls to lead the way with the bat while Rohit Sharma chipped in with 46 at the top of the order. With all-rounder Hardik Pandya still out through injury, the Indians will likely stick with the same team for the clash against England, meaning they’ll only have five bowlers to rely on.
Virat Kohli Top IND Runscorer ($4.50 at Ladbrokes)
Predicted India XI: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jedeja, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj
England
It’s been a tournament to forget for the Poms so far. They currently sit in 9th palace in the standings with a 1-4 record and were smashed by Sri Lanka in their last game on Thursday night. Batting first, England could only muster 156 after being bowled out in just 33.2 overs. Ben Stokes was the only commendable batsman for England, scoring 43 off 73.
England was arguably worse with the ball, taking just two wickets as Sri Lanka easily chased down the target in 25.4 overs. The Poms technically aren’t eliminated from semi-final contention just yet, but their destiny is certainly out of their own hands and there is no way they can afford to drop another game.
Hard to know exactly which way the Poms will go with their side for this one. They have experimented with different line-ups throughout the tournament so far but just haven’t been able to find the right mix. Sam Curran, Harry Brook and Gus Atkinson are all potential inclusions from the team that lost to Sri Lanka on Thursday.
Joe Root Top ENG Runscorer ($4.50 at Ladbrokes)
Predicted England XI: Johnny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, David Willey, Mark Wood
Betting Tips
Hard to see a major upsetting here based on the form of these two teams at the moment. India have barely put a foot wrong in this tournament and just have so much good depth to call upon even if they wanted to rest a few of their fast bowlers. At $1.44, there’s not much meat left on the bone but I’m not going against India here.
