Doomben Racing Tips: Saturday July 22nd 2023
Race 2: Teddy Bears Picnic Plate 2020m – 12:33pm AEST
(8) CHAYSE ‘N ARTIE – 3YO taking on the older horses who returns on the quick back-up after a solid run last week (was well supported that day). He’s obviously come through the run in great order for the stable to butter up here. His last three runs have all been good and he draws a beaut gate for McCormack to get the run of the race behind the leaders. Three back he did a good job to run second behind INUWASHI who nabbed him late (good gaps behind) before going to EF two back and proving too strong over 1800m winning by 1.3L. LS he made an early move and was exposed a long way from home but battled strongly to the line (winner saved ground / good ride). Any sting out of the track looks like a bonus too. Should run well.
(5) TONY BE – 5YO who is the favourite in the race. Has been racing in some much tougher races, so gets back in grade here and is probably deserved favourite. Draws a wide barrier which will take some work. Yet to win over this distance, but likes the soft track.
(8) CHAYSE N ARTIE – Win
$3.10 (3 Units)
Race 3: Brc M’ship on Sale Now BM90 2020m – 1:08 pm AEST
(1) MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – one of the better bets of the day! He’s rock hard fit and maps to be the sole leader from a low gate. The race looks devoid of much speed on paper, so I think he can dictate from the front and hopefully not get taken on. He has form around ALBURQ and ANTINO this prep which is good enough for this. He beat PENTITO two back over 1666m at Ipswich when he led from barrier to post before being well supported LS over the mile and getting taken on throughout the early / middle stages. He did an excellent job to stick on and gave a decent kick after turning for home (beat the one that took him on easily). Gets in well after the claim and enjoys a soft track. Hard to run over!
(7) ATLANTIC EAGLE – Early favourite who has had a small drift. Won over this trip last start nicely, but goes up in grade, but drops 4kg off that run. Should be competitive again.
(1) MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – Win
$3.40 (3 Units)
Race 5: Sky Racing Hcp C6 1615m – 2:18pm AEST
(1) SELEQUE – best each-way bet of the day. Typically open Class 6 but I think she’s over the odds at that price and can win. She’ll likely go back / need some luck from the wide gate, but there looks enough speed on paper to give her a chance. She was beaten less than 2L three-back behind ANTINO (MISSISSIPPI PRINCE and BLAZE A TRAIL both won since) over 1400m before going to FM-WFA grade and failing to fire. She came back and ran second to BAANONE LS when held up at a key stage (went past MISSISSIPPI PRINCE who ran earlier today). Goes well at the track, enjoys getting her toe in, and is fifth up / ready. If there’s no on-speed pattern, she’s a great chance in an even race. (1 unit win 2 units place)
(1) SELEQUE – E/W
$6/$2.15 (1u/2u)
