AFL Round 18 Preview & Betting Tips
West Coast vs Richmond
Sunday 4:40pm AEST, July 16th, Optus Stadium
West Coast have made a big call at selection with Andrew Gaff being named as the sub. In positive news for the Eagles Shannon Hurn, Luke Shuey and Sam Petrevski-Seton return to the side to add some desperately needed experience.
It was an all too familiar tale for the Eagles, suffering an 81 point defeat at the hands of Brisbane last week. It’s clear West Coast aren’t up to standard, and struggle to compete against clubs outside of the bottom four.
The Tigers will be without co-captain Toby Nankervis who has been suspended for three weeks, while debutant Jacob Bauer is out with a hamstring injury. Ivan Soldo replaces Nankervis, while last week’s sub Jack Ross has been upgraded to the starting 22.
Richmond came from 26 points down to knock off the Swans in a stirring win at the MCG, built on a dominant clearance performance. The Tigers won the clearance count by 16, and the contested possessions by 9 as they kicked four goals to one in the final quarter.
With the likes of Taranto, Prestia, Hopper and Graham in the midfield, the Tigers are going to have a serious size advantage over the Eagles. If the Richmond midfield performs in the manner they did last week they’re going to create an abundance of scoring opportunities.
Richmond have won their last three games against West Coast by margins of 46, 35, and 109 points. With the Eagles having conceded over 100 points in twelve of their last fourteen games, it’s difficult to see them finding a way to contain the Tigers attacking game if they win the territory battle as they should.
Richmond got back to their brand of football last week and will be desperate to gain some much needed percentage that could prove crucial in the race for finals. Expect a ruthless performance from the Tigers in Perth.
