Ladbrokes Park (Lakeside) will host Victorian midweek racing this week with an eight-race program on offer. Gallopers will race on a predicted Soft6 surface with the first of the day getting underway at 12:25pm. It looks to be a tough program to bet on, but expert Brendan Bunworth has still come up with some quality selections for four races.

Sandown Racing Tips – Wednesday, July 5th 2023
Race 2: The Importer Handicap - 1pm (AEST)
(2) Botany has drawn wide for Peter Moody (11) but she is very fit now and she does race well on damp ground. The track bias may be the key here and if the track is better out in the middle, then the barrier might be okay. Carleen Hefel hops back on and she has won on this mare previously.
(4) Hard Squeeze has drawn well in 3 and she has previously raced well when over this track & distance. Thomas Stockdale has placed on her before and the wet track is a bonus.
(8) Alors Tu Crois won on the Heavy at Tatura at her last run and despite this being harder, she should run top 4.
(1) Glamdam will get back but if they go quickly, will be running on hard at the end. Has won 3 from 8 starts on the Soft.
(2) Botany - WIN
$5 (1 Unit)
Race 3: Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives Handicap - 1:35pm (AEST)
(3) Regal Vow has drawn well in barrier 2 and has been in the placings 3 of 4 starts on Soft tracks. Billy Pinn gets a 2-kilogram claim and the filly will likely position up just behind the leader throughout the run. She won well at Geelong 3 starts ago and that was on a Soft 6. Fully fit now and deserves another win in this prep.
(6) Burnt Orange led all of the way at Mornington to break his maiden and then despite being 10th last time at the same track, was only beaten 3.5L.
(9) The Devil In Her likes wet tracks and the recent jumpout at Kerang should keep her sharp after winning well at Tatura last time.
(5) Ameerati won well last start but this is harder. Has only been fair on wet ground.
(3) Regal Vow - WIN
$3.30 (3 Units)
Race 4: LockettLEDau Handicap - 2:10pm (AEST)
(1) Extreme Step is first up and has gone well fresh previously for the Hayes stable. Pinn takes the ride and the mare has had 3 jumpouts in readiness for this assignment so she is fit enough to win. In her last couple of starts in harder company than this, she got back a fair way so similar tactics may be produced here again. The more early speed the better if she’s back.
(2) Starlight Scope has been running in town and hasn't been disgraced for Pat Carey. This is easier and she is probably over the odds at double figures.
(3) Mrs Chrissie may lead and if she does will want to control the tempo. Hefel stays on and she has won on her before.
(4) La Vina has in-form Johnny Allen on again and was only beaten .5L behind a smart one last time. She is second up and should have more fitness.
(1) Extreme Step - WIN
$4.50 (2 Units)
Race 7: Ladbrokes Odds Surge Handicap - 3:55pm (AEST)
(2) Tasman Park was one we backed last and was terribly unlucky. He was caught wide for most of the trip but kept on going to 2nd when he really was entitled to finish midfield. He has won on damp tracks before and his unlucky 2nd last start was after a tough 4th, beaten only 1.5L behind talented Cardigan Queen at Hillside. First try here but he is 1 from 1 over the distance.
(3) Wascaly has won 3 from 4 starts and was in a hard trial on June 12 behind Katsu.
(5) Deel Blaster was 7th at the 400m last start but ran on well to finish 2nd. He likes wet ground and will be running on again.
(6) Arktika we have tipped a few times on this site. She has only placed twice from 4 starts on the Soft. Talented but Tasman Park is better.
(2) Tasman Park - WIN
$2.90 (4 Units)
