It’s a stacked card at Eagle Farm on Saturday, headlined by the Group 1 Stradbroke and J. J. Atkins. The rail is out 4m the entirety after being out 2m last week with no distinct pattern noticeable. Our racing selections are for a GOOD track – watch and monitor if possible.
Eagle Farm Racing Tips – Saturday, June 10th 2023
Race 3: Channel 7 The Wayne Wilson 1600m - 12:53pm (AEST)
(3) SKYMAN – one of the better ew bets of the day! I think he’s going better than the race book suggests this prep and can run well again today. Three-back he was a nice winner beating CEPHEUS and co. at Listed level when he did his best work late with 60kgs on his back before going to the G2 Hollindale Stakes behind ZAAKI and HUETOR (since won) when he raced keenly through the early/middle stages and stayed near the inside (not best going / forgive). They scratched him from a race a few weeks ago to run last week and he ran super behind MUNHAMEK (also here). He was forced back to equal last from the wide gate and tacked on to the eventual winner down the straight. He meets MUNHAMEK 5kgs better at the weights, get back to the mile, smaller field, and goes best on a dry track. Over the odds at the price.
SKYMAN – Win
$8/$2.40 (2u/3u)
Race 4: XXXX Brisbane Cup 3200m – 1:28pm (AEST)
(9) TEOFILO STAR – a hurdler who went back to the ‘flat’ LS and absolutely whacked them. He’s been super this prep and can win again on the quick back up. I like how he’s deep into a prep, maps to get an easy enough time of it in front from the pole, handles all conditions, and is proven to stay the trip / carry weight. He gets in on the minimum today to offset the rise in class and has Tim Clark to steer (very good front running rider). Rock hard fit for Waterhouse/Bott generally translates to ‘hard to run down’. Keen he runs well.
TEOFILO STAR – Win
$2.80 (3 Units)
Race 6: Sky Racing The Q22 2200m - 2:38pm (AEST)
(8) SERPENTINE – we were with him LS when he did a great job running second to KUKERACHA (ran earlier) in a bob of the heads. It was 2400m that day and he was taken on around the 8-600m mark by one which quickly dropped off after entering the straight. This bloke kept kicking and held them all off bar KUKERACHA who got its head down at the right time (WARNING and KALAPOUR were close up behind). He goes back to 2200m today, draws a nice low gate for the T. Clark and Waterhouse/Bott combo, will be fitter again, goes well on top the ground, and maps to be the sole leader. He’ll give a sight and be hard to run over. Great roughie.
(12) DUAIS – having a saver on this girl who returned in great order behind HUETOR and NUMERIAN (both also here). She had three trials leading into that first up run over 2000m and she got wound up late / was very good through the line. The extra furlong is a bonus, she draws a nice low gate for Clipperton, can hopefully sit a bit closer in running, and she’ll appreciate the big track of EF. She’s class and can win.
SERPENTINE – E/W
$11/$3.50 (1u/1u)
Race 8: The Star Stradbroke hcp GROUP 1 1400m - 3:52pm (AEST)
(10) CARDINAL GEM – what a cracking race this looks on paper with many winning chances! This bloke is absolutely airborne this prep and I think he can measure up. Three-back he was dominant at Sandown over 1400m in the G3 Victoria Hcp winning eased down before going back to Listed Grade at the same track/trip giving BUFFALO RIVER a huge start halfway down the straight but he knuckled down to grab him in the last few strides (I loved the chase!). LS he headed to Doomben in the G3 BRC Sprint over 1350m and he was totally luckless. He was caught no better than 4WNC the trip yet he still had the audacity to hit the line to run fourth behind SURF DANCER (also here) beaten a length (he was the best of the closers). Draws a much better gate today, has been kept fresh, and I think he maps for a perfect run in the first half of the field. He’ll be strong late.
(20) OPAL RIDGE – 3YO filly on the rise who loves being on top of the ground and that’s exactly what she’ll get here. Her two runs back this prep on top of the ground have produced two slashing victories. First-up she was forced back to last turning for home before angling to the middle of the track, taking a gap and bursting through to win by 2L. She then had two runs on a heavy Randwick track which limited her ability to show the same TOF as her first-up run (she still ran well and SP’d $2.4 and $2.80 respectively). LS she was back to a dry track at Scone, was in the back half of the field 3&4-wide the trip but still exploded down the centre of the track to win! She’s a great knock-out hope getting in on the minimum. **If she doesn’t run here, she’s bet of the day in race 9**
Cardinal Gem – E/W
$15/$4.60 (1u/2u)
