Canterbury Racing Tips – Wednesday, June 7th 2023
Race 4: Schweppes BM72 1550m – 2:35pm AEST
(3) Flashing Steel – 3YO gelding who has won his last two and of late saluted over this distance for a first time. Won by 3L last start which was impressive and prior to that won by nearly 2L. Stays in the same class, but rises up 3kg in weight. J Mac remains in the saddle and should be winning again. Draws a nice gate too. Runner up CINQUE TORRI also rises up 3kg, so don’t expect him to get an advantage here.
(9) Alfano – Only win for this 4YO gelding comes over this track and distance. However that was a while ago and a maiden. Tougher here, but looks over the odds. Watch the market.
(3) Flashing Steel – Win
$2.60 (3 Units)
Race 5: Ranvet BM72 1100m – 3:10pm AEST
(2) Tucson Valley – 5YO mare who has a terrific record over this distance and loves the wet track. Will have to carry some weight which is always tough for a mare. Gets a nice little class drop here and prior to LS she hadn’t missed the trifecta for 5 runs in a row. Should still be fit enough to go around and I like the each way price. Hopefully jumps well from the nice gate and can lead and win. Takes catching.
(2) Tucson Valley – E/W
$6.50/$2.35 (1u/2u)
Race 6: Drinkwise BM72 1100m – 3:45pm AEST
(1) Huon – 4YO gelding who has only ever missed the minors once which was last start of last prep. Resumes now and is proven first up and over the track/distance. Still has to carry top weight, but hoping he can sit on the pace with cover from his nice draw and then can use up his energy late to pounce. Looks a great each way bet and a confident bet if the rain comes. Loves it heavy.
(4) King of Naples – The favorite of the race who has run some nice races. Proven on the wet, but unsuccessful over this track and distances. Gets J Mac in the saddle which builds confidence. First up and suggest he may need the run.
(1) Huon – E/W
$9/$2.60 (1u/2u)
Race 7: Tab BM72 1900M – 4:20pm AEST
(12) Left Reeling – Roughie chance of the day. Has been disappointing this prep, minus one run where she came second. Prior to that she had been running some really nice races. Gets a nice booking with JVO to ride and loves the wet track. Has really nice speed too and can launch late. Needs to bring her racing from old and can be a big sniff here. Worth a small penny at this price.
(12) Left Reeling – E/W
$16/$4.40 (1u/1u)
MULTI OF THE DAY
R4 – (3) FLASHING STEEL (WIN)
R5 – (2) TUCSON VALLEY (PLACE)
$6.10 at TAB
