Midweek racing returns to Ballarat on Wednesday on a program which looks tough for punters to dissect. The first four races are maidens and there are not many standout selections on the card. In saying that, I have chosen my four best bets for the day below, with a Soft surface in mind.
Ballarat Racing Tips – Wednesday, April 12th
Race 1
(2) Knife Talk is better than his last start unplaced effort at this track last time and I think he can make amends in the first for the Maher & Eustace team. He was good on debut at Ballarat when 2nd beaten less than a length before settling 3rd last start before drifting back to last position. John Allen stays on and he is likely to come over from barrier 8 and settle around 4th on the Nicconi/Alqwah gelding.
(1) Circumpolar will go forward again here after leading most of the way at Yarra Valley last start (3rd). Before that it was a nice 2nd at Sale.
(5) Signal for Matt Laurie will be the fav and he is very fit after four runs from a spell, three of them have been placings. Laurie has a good strike rate this year and this one will be even money.
(7) Mothereens is up in class and can only win if they go crazy up front.
(2) Knife Talk - WIN

Race 4
(9) Caser Cake has Dean Yendall on again and the pair have a good chance to notch up a win in a race that is not hard. Despite being 5th at Geelong last start, he did make up pretty good ground over the final 200m and in start number two he should be a little more ready. From barrier 8 it will be interesting to see if “Dirty Dean” is more positive or he elects to drift back again and wait for another strong finish.
(4) Divus Romulus trialed well at Flemington leading up to this and John Allen is on for Nick Ryan who is training very well at the minute.
(10) Call Me Catherine gets the blinkers on this time after an unlucky 9th at Pakenham last start. Not sure she can win but a place bet might be value.
(11) Makrana will appreciate the Soft track and should improve on her Geelong 7th.
(9) Caser Cake - WIN

Race 5
(6) Street Delight comes across from Warrnambool for this and gets Linda Meech on again which is a bonus. First up she was just fair when 5th here on a Soft ground but last prep she won in the wet so this track should suit on Wednesday. She was only 2L behind Jennilala last time and that horse has since ran very well.
(7) Ziggi Rocks gets Craig Newitt on again after a solid 4th at Geelong on April 7. He is fitter now and is a chance at each-way odds. Handles all surfaces so it doesn't matter if there is a track upgrade.
(5) Reservoir Dog is first up after a nice Spring campaign and this will likely be too short. Has class and can sneak a placing though.
(4) Volpe Risorsa was poor when first up but has won 2nd up previously. A Soft track suits and is a big chance to lead this race.
(6) Street Delight - WIN

Race 8
(9) Dancelittlesister has drawn well in barrier 2 and comes into this with confidence after a nice trial run. She has done well when 1st up previously and has placed three times over this distance. Thomas Stockdale takes the ride for the Busuttin & Young team who have been very patient with this girl.
(8) Summit Queen goes well on wet tracks so will want rain on Tuesday night. Trialed well but wait until is wetter i reckon.
(7) Tequila Storm goes better on Good tracks so will want a track upgrade. Won well at Warrnambool last start and Dean Holland stays on.
(6) Rose Tycoon has placed 4 of 5 runs on Soft tracks and goes well fresh. Was racing in harder races than this during the Spring.
