The 2022 Drivers Championship is settled, with Max Verstappen claiming his second World Title, after winning the Japanese Grand Prix two weeks ago. Now that the dust has settled, we need to try and figure out the motivation behind how Max Verstappen keeps his form up for the remaining 4 races of the season. Speaking of the Japanese Grand Prix, we had a cracking week, going 4 from 4 for +10.9 units. Let’s see if we can find value again.

Japanese Grand Prix Review
The heavens opened at start time for the Japanese Grand Prix, and long story short this turned the race into a 28-lap race. Verstappen took pole by the slimmest of margins from Charles Leclerc, however once the race started, he was in a league of his own. By the time the chequered flag fell, Verstappen was 27 seconds clear of 2nd place Leclerc, who was handed a post-race penalty after his battle with Perez in the closing stages, which ultimately confirmed the championship for Leclerc.
The big talking point, apart from Max claiming the title, was the close call for Pierre Gasly when the race was red flagged after Carlos Sainz crashed on lap 1. Gasly jumped into the pits, and as a result was well behind the train. He came out, and trying to catch up to the snake, was going faster than the other drivers, and came upon a recovery vehicle that was parked on the racing line at speed. Those who recall the fatal collision at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix involving Jules Bianchi were horrified, and it was a narrow escape for Gasly. Luckily, no collision took place, however an investigation is underway by the FIA.
United States Grand Prix Preview
This will be the 10th instalment of the United States Grand Prix at the Austin circuit, with Lewis Hamilton having won 5 of the previous 9 races. Max Verstappen won here last year, after a close battle with Hamilton.
Verstappen has 4 races to try and catch the most wins in a season record, currently held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel with 13. Verstappen currently has 12 race wins this year, and you’d be a brave man to bet against him claiming this record.
It’s hard to see anyone besides Verstappen or Leclerc winning the race here, with my lean obviously being towards Verstappen, however it’s hard to find any value in his current price, given his motivation is surely waning.
So, the stakes will be lower in this race, and I’ll take Leclerc, who’s price is far bigger in a two-man race. I also like a few other bets in the midfield, with McLaren appearing to have received a significant boost over the past few races with their upgraded package. Ricciardo is still being priced as though he doesn’t belong in Formula 1, however he has looked much better over the past 2 races, and with a bit of luck will surely be in and around the points.
I’m also betting on an Alpine finishing in the top 6, with the Alpine looking quick at recent circuits.
